.snd was stereo - but 8 bit; which is possibly why it died.
. . to date, I have not seen anything which can cancel noise, even tape hiss, like that program could.

there were a billion formats floating around.
those days are gone - but not forgotten ^^

I'm still digging through my pile of CD-R's . . T_T . . this might take a while!
. . the reason I brought this up was that the guy who did the program left his E-mail and address encoded in the program ( at the time, he didn't know what to do with this noise eliminator program . . perhap's, if I can find his name and address, he can re-make the program to work for .wav's ^^ )

yes, it really-really did work; but at the time, I had no use for it either ~_~
. . talk about history coming-back to haunt ya!

You're probably thinking of dynamic gating, maybe on different frequency bands. The best noise cancellation would probably be to run it thru a FFT, then get an FFT of the noise, and cancel it out of the signal FFT. You can do that in Matlab (one of our encoders for this fansub group did that for a whole episode, took hours).

As for snd converter, if someone can dig up the sound binary format...
