Omni, you're not along. >.>
When I'm bored I start sketching random stuff, and it turns out great because I'm kinda having fun since there's nothing else better to do.
But when I sit down and actually TRY to draw something, it comes out like total CRAP.
One of the reason I can never do commissions for quick money =\
I'm not that great of an artist(I've drifted from anime style to a mix of manga/western, so my stuff is like.. the wierdest style so no one knows what to say or comment abou it), but I find that you should just do everything the other people have already siad.
Practice practice practice.
That's probably the reason why students at colleges/schools/universities are better during the school year instead of summer...
We're so bored we can't stop drawing.
They say if you practice somehting eveyr day you'll never lose your touch.
So, once every day... Tough to live up to. >.>
Anyhow, in the meantime, if your work is still looking crappy, you can ink it in a certain way that makes it look less crappy. Take a look at
this picture.
You can tell it's out of porportion, and the star fruit cannot possibly be held by the hand in that position after you look at it. But because of the way it's inked, at first glance it doesn't look bad. (Yes, this is fanart, but it's the only thing I have hosted at the moment).
Anyway, it's pretty basic.. I don't have a ton of money so I just use Sharpies. You use the thin to begin with, and outline everything. Then, you take the normal size sharpies and go over it again for small shadows.
After that, you take the extra fat sharpie and fill any big shadows in.
(I tend to go out of order... Thin, extra thick, then normal).
Anyway, hope that helps you out, some.

Indirect link to the picture above, if it doesn't work. The picture and inking style I'm referring to is at the bottom of the page. It's the smaller picture.)
