Ugh...WMV...

Post by Angel Auron » Tue Jun 24, 2003 4:18 pm

Erg, this is probably a dumb question....but my computer does not play Windows Media type videos. My windows media player works fine. Do they only play on XP? Cause i have 98. I doubt thats the problem though. I mean, i can play every codec under the sun, but those just...dont work o.O What do you think the problem is?

And on another note, is it possible to convert WMV's to AVI's or MPEG's?

You don't have to install WMP9. If you have WMP7 or greater you can install the Windows Media 8 and 9 codecs:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... efault.asp

Select "Codecs Installation Package" in the Select Download drop-down box.

Yes, given the correct software:

mplayer can do it, but it works best on UN*X systems. VirtualDub 1.3, should you be able to get a copy of it, includes a WMV parser. (Only VirtualDub 1.3 has that parser IIRC -- Microsoft made Avery Lee remove it in future versions, though if you were enterprising you could re-integrate the parser with the current codebase ;) )

you can read wmv into avisynth if you know the framerate of the file
directshowsource("G:\hotporn2.wmv",29.97)

also EO video will convert wmv.

6.4 is the best of the Windows Media Player series. Period.
