Direct Copy audio.

I like how in VirtualDub you can cut bits from the video, and still do a Direct Copy without having to recompress.

Can such a thing be done with MP3 audio just by itself?

I dunno, you can try making a fake video of all black, set the audio input to 'wav audio' and then try doing direct stream copy of that (the .wav file would be an encapsulated mp3 file)
