While the main evnets room for Iron Chef did "Appear" to be epty you also have to realize it is desighned for over 3000 people. At one tiem we had close to 600+ in the room at one time. ( for some reason lots of peopel kept moving in and out all the time ). Anyway Finals are commign up soon and I have to back to the room to set it up again.

Ahhh, that makes sense. I remember the sponsor (ExpertDV) telling me that when he called me before the contest. He wanted to make sure I knew what a "music video" was .AbsoluteDestiny wrote:You were the first to get a theme.
I think the reason for the change was awa 8 where Hsien made an upbeat drama video and Joe made a comedy/parody video. It's very difficult to judge two completely different kinds of videos like that. Both were well made but Hsiens won on artistic merit.
Hence, themes were created to allow easier juding as a video can be judged on how well it manages to fit the theme.
At the same time, with my contest, my competitor and I made entirely different videos too (fun vs. action). So, I think regardless you can easily have two different videos...I mean it's two different creators right? At the same time, I'm not trying to discredit the theme, I kind of liked it. It may have limited me down on ideas, but at the same time, I could concentrate on them and focus.
I find it odd that people kept going in and out. I mean Brad is a great entertainer and should be able to keep people there. Weird non-AMV peoplescottanime wrote:While the main evnets room for Iron Chef did "Appear" to be epty you also have to realize it is desighned for over 3000 people. Yeah, that's the thing - it's unavoidable. What the theme does is give the judges another specific element to measure a video on. In the past the only *predefined* focus was use of Secret Ingredient. Now two totally different videos can use the secret ingredient well. So now you can also judge on how well the video fit the prescribed theme and this allows more common factors which can be used to judge two videos that might be very good but very different types of videos.dwchang wrote:At the same time, with my contest, my competitor and I made entirely different videos too (fun vs. action). It's easy to judge videos of a similar genre but the skills used for one genre don't often apply to the other. By having the use of secret ingredient and application of theme as necessary elements of the judging process it gives the videos a more common ground to be judged upon even if the videos are different types.

I think it was mostly just the judges preference to talk about porn that made it difficult for people to watch. People wanted hentai... and BLOOD! *_*dwchang wrote:I find it odd that people kept going in and out. I mean Brad is a great entertainer and should be able to keep people there. Weird non-AMV people

Ahh well the judges at ACen (From what I'm told, I was fairly focused on editing) were fairly intoxicated and they did a gameshow (since Greggo was one of the judges) and that had audience participation...thus people stayed. They also showed a few AMVs from me and my competitor.Ashton wrote:I think it was mostly just the judges preference to talk about porn that made it difficult for people to watch. Well, there certainly wasn't a game show (even though I did find myself on stage at one point) but they were showing AMVs by Justin, Tim, and (mostly) Brad. That was kinda wierd, but Patrick was picking 'em, so I really can't blame Brad for it. Well, I'll try anyway! ~_^dwchang wrote:Ahh well the judges at ACen (From what I'm told, I was fairly focused on editing) were fairly intoxicated and they did a gameshow (since Greggo was one of the judges) and that had audience participation...thus people stayed. Yeah the gameshow added A LOT of life to our event as well as the intoxication on both the judges and err...challenger's end .Ashton wrote:Well, there certainly wasn't a game show (even though I did find myself on stage at one point) but they were showing AMVs by Justin, Tim, and (mostly) Brad. As for videos, Patrick went through the standard stuff like Right Now, Odorikuruu and so on and then a few from the two of us since well..we were the two they were watching...
Either way sounds fun and I'm upset I wasn't there to cheer on Tim.

It was really fun. I'm not sure why, but it was, and I stuck around all 3 hours. I got on stage, and stayed there until Patrick shued me off. Justin wasn't so engrossed that he couldn't hear it when EK's video started playing, because the first time you hear the "UH!" sound, he did the whole pelvis thrust. He could here it just fine.dwchang wrote:Yeah the gameshow added A LOT of life to our event as well as the intoxication on both the judges and err...challenger's end .Ashton wrote:Well, there certainly wasn't a game show (even though I did find myself on stage at one point) but they were showing AMVs by Justin, Tim, and (mostly) Brad. Tim told us afterward that the headphones had a sound protection feature thing, that he didn't figure out how to us until the verry end.
Apparently "Weapon of Choice" works a little better when the theme is guns, eh? ^_^
