Geeeez....A girl can't get a break can she?
Man! Talk about chew you up and spit you out
This is the first time I've ever came upon so many negative vibes from anime "supporters" since I've started this. Whatever happened to fans out there doing it for the fans? No wonder the world thinks we're "geeks"
Cut a sister a break will ya? I already talked to a lawyer or I wouldn't have stuck my neck out to post the damn request in the first place. As far as getting back to a-m-v.org, don't you think they'll try to go through me first? I'm already working on getting releases from the anime companies (but that takes awhile) I'm on deadline here. Anyway...I'll defend the "art" before giving in to Big Brother (no doubt) but if I'm "Pot" then you're "Kettle". Don't patronize what I'm doing. I love anime and I love what I do. And if you can't appreciate someone following their dream then, yeah, you're right, screw you then.
For those out there who did e-mail me, I forwarded the waiver/release form and gave them information on the show. If those who get chosen, I will send a copy of the show and the broadcast dates and times. You want info on the show, e-mail me. It gives me a chance to get to know you guys on a more personal level as opposed to dealing with all the "noise". Since this is a forum, I'm getting off my soapbox now. "For every action, there is re-action" One must bend with the wind or be broken. I'm done here.

Yes, and what we want are copies of those documents. The release forms, the written permission.benuboo22 wrote:Man! There is absolutely no harm in giving that out -- save for personal information like your name and address, which you can easily remove if you feel the need to do so.
Given the legality (or, more appropriately, lack thereof) of AMVs, and what you're doing, it only makes logical sense for us to demand to see these documents before you do anything. If you refuse that request, then everyone here has the right to refuse your request.
Chances are good that things will come crashing down on you first, then the creators second (since they gave you permission, after all) and possibly the .org.benuboo22 wrote: As far as getting back to the Org, don't you think they'll try to go through me first?
We would like to ensure that we are well-covered, and the healthily paranoid people here want to see proof of that before they submit anything to such a public performance. (This is way different from the scale of a convention showing.)
Hence, the repeated requests for information. It's not hard.
Fine, and post them as you get them. Cut out your name and address if you wish. That's all we ask. There is nothing wrong with publicly displaying legal documents like the ones you describe.benuboo22 wrote: I'm already working on getting releases from the anime companies (but that takes awhile) I'm on deadline here.
Yeah, we love anime and we love what we do, too (otherwise I'm sure we wouldn't be doing it). We also love our asses, and most of us don't want them to get raped by large greedy corporations.benuboo22 wrote: I love anime and I love what I do.
Fine, I'm sure many of us don't see a reason to without proof of legal releasebenuboo22 wrote: Don't patronize what I'm doing.

Ok, the only reason we are worried here at the org and *gasp* want to know a little information is that if this site is found, it could be shut down. They can't do that you say, but they can, this is how something similar happened at school, maybe some of you know about this, it was /.ed. A person was running a search engine on our campus network at RPI, all it did was crawl the shares of ppl who wanted to share various things, mp3's, video files, school work, warez, funny images, etc. Now, this site did nothing but provide links and made finding anything on our large network easy, it wasn't a peer to peer thing, just normal http stuff like google. Now this is a private network, outside ppl could not access it, in addition, our computer department ran another campus search engine in addition to this, so obviously the school had nothing against this and it was aware of the legal ramifications cause obviously they wouldn't want to be liable. the RIAA found out about this and shut the individual person down as it could promote the swapping of mp3's. They didn't shut down the campus one btrw. Well, this is obviously stupid as google does something similar, in fact, it even cache's files so you can have access if the original site went down. Now he ended up settling as he couldn't afford the legal costs. He now owes the RIAA a lot of money. They would rather shut down a site like this cause it has no big b acking to fight against them as it os obviously bs, like someone dls amv's to get music. Now, this site does sometghing very similar, it is just a catalog with links to copyrighted music and anime. I would like to avoid this site being shut down and costing Phade a bunch of money. Especially since this site now hosts videos, this is even closer to that ify ground. Essentially, the less exposure the better. We just dont want your event to cause undue publicity which would make broad knowlegde of this site. Besides the fact that the individual creators could get in trouble as well is another issue. Making videos is legal, distributing them is not. Is that such a bad reason to want to know information? I don't think it is. Its allways better to be on the side of caution than the side of stupidity. Thats just my 2 cents, other ppl problably have similar concerns.

I'm sure atleast one person in this topic has emailed that guy/girl wanting info. They could save everyone a bunch of worrying if they just copy and pasted that info in this topic.

Hey, I'm back and just went over all your replies. I came to realize that this is a very important issue. I didn't want to get the Org involved legally at all that's why I posted a "Call for all Artists". If the artists dealt with me directly and sent in their vids anonymously then I thought it would avoid having the org get mixed up in this. I see all your points, and they are very valid. If this is any constellation, I did not want to reveal the source of where I accessed the information for AMV's to the network as you are correct that licensing is required. We discovered a "loop" that would protect both us (the show) and the artist by signing a release form (a non-exclusive license) IF they send in the vid w/o their real name and used only their artist's name (which would be harder to get back to them). Anyway, I was never to reveal the source from which I got my contact info for the artists. I am working on releases now and hopefully will get them before broadcast. If it gets too "hairy" my producer is going to revert to showing the previews that are set to music in the majority of the animes to promote the companies (i.e. Manga, ADV, Pioneer, US Manga, etc.). I hope this will put some things to rest. I will keep you updated. Btw...
My show is called the "The Animezing Show" based in NYC. It introduces people (mostly kids and adults 18-34) to the world of manga, anime and comic books. We have different segments that deal with various aspects of this exploding market and gives you an inside look. We do interviews, discussions, give you updates on upcoming events and (hopefully) get to show some of the fanime's "kick a$$" work. IF we can't then we can always have a segment where you can just send in your artwork, sketches, drawings, etc. Whew!
I think that's about it. Hope to see you at the Big Apple Anime Fest in August! I'll be there (shooting the show-so hope to meet some of you there, you little pain in the butts!
) LOL

Think about it! If you can't understand my sig, don't you say nothing about my spelling!

GASP! Copyrighted artwork!
now what if someone drew something really amazing and the 'big coporations saw it and thought, "Hey, this illustration/character/ scenery looks like something that we own in one of our copyrighted anime". Then they decide to screw those individuals over. Man what a pain that'd be.
Anyhoo...
Benuboo22,
I think that what you're doing, if it is legit, is a very noble thing. I love anime and manga. I'm not worried about the corporations. They can sue me for all I care. If anything, we're promoting their stuff and more peeps will buy the anime and music. I've purchased anime and music based off of what I've seen in AMVs all the time!
EX: El Hazard - "Once in a Lifetime" by Sarah Brightman)
I forgot who did this AMV though, but it was beautiful to say the least!
Wonderful series, I bought the entire collection. Own that CD that has that song too. Of course I was bumping it a bit loud in my car stereo and someone broke into my car and ganked all my stuff, the bastards!!
I hope the RIAA and the 'big coporations' get them before I do.
Life is too short, I try to enjoy it as much as possible.
I'll request the form from you thanks.
Peace out sister!
