Building PC...

Post by shadow-the-hedgehog » Mon May 19, 2003 6:26 pm

Well, I am going to be building a PC, hopefully. So in order to "Concentrate" what I want I made a list. Here it is:

Case: Silver X Dreamer.....$56.99,
MotherBoard: Asus A7N8X.....$139.00,
Processor: Athlon XP-2400.....$120.00,
Monitor: 17" CRT (SVGA).....$149.00,
Hard Drive: Western Digital 80 GB ATA100 7200 RPM.....$109.00,
RAM: 2x DDR 258 MB Sticks.....$32.00 ea.,
Sound Card: Audigy X-Gamer.....$79.99,
Video Card: All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro.....$399.99,
Optical Drive #1: DVD IDE Artec/Samsung.....$39.00,
Optical Drive #2: Sony DRU-500AX.....$349.99,
Floppy Drive: Generic 3.5" Floppy Drive.....$12.00,
Keyboard/Mouse: Silver Chieftec Combo.....$24.99,
IDE Cables: Round Multi-Pack.....$18.99,
Case Fans: 4x 80mm Antec Fans.....$11.96(total)
Power Supply: Icute 350 Watt.....$27.99,
Speakers: Logitec Z-640 5.1.....$99.99.

Total: $1730.87.

The reason I put the prices was hopefully someone knew if there was a place I could get some of these for cheaper, or something better for an equal price. I looked in "Heads up," but found nothing to aid in this.

Case: Silver X Dreamer.....$56.99 --- That's fine

MotherBoard: Asus A7N8X.....$139.00, - Get a cheaper nforce2 motherboard from chaintech or EpoX. The Deluxe model seems to only add SATA support and at that price it's not worth it.

Processor: Athlon XP-2400.....$120.00, - Get a XP2200, $20 cheaper only 130Mhz less.

Monitor: 17" CRT (SVGA).....$149.00, ---- fine if you like dinky screens. You can sometimes find nice bargins on larger monitors from "unknown" companies off ebay :p. The quality is questionable. I like my 21" Cornerstone P1500 tho and it only cost about $280

Hard Drive: Western Digital 80 GB ATA100 7200 RPM.....$109.00 - don't know where you got that price, but you can get a 120GB 7200rpm Western Digital for the same price online.

RAM: 2x DDR 258 MB Sticks.....$32.00 ea., - They don't make 258MB sticks, 256MB yes! :p. I'd spend a little more and get some Kingston ValueRam, more realiable and better quality. Also good thing you got two then you can take advantage of dual-channel memory. 256MB DIMMs will run you about $35ea.

Sound Card: Audigy X-Gamer.....$79.99, - You don't need a sound card for the nforce2 boards. Their onboard audio is REALLY good(so I've heard). Just use that and if you need something better get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz which many people say is THE BEST consumer card out there. It's only about $70 to.

Video Card: All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro.....$399.99, You don't need a All-In-Wonder. Are you really going to be doing alot of capturing? I would get a vanilla Radeon 9500 PRO or 9700. If you really want to do capturing, look into getting a DV200 which has a free copy of Premiere. 9500 Pro will run you about $160, DV200 will run you about $250(FREE PREIMERE THO!!! :p)

Optical Drive #1: DVD IDE Artec/Samsung.....$39.00, That's fine.

Optical Drive #2: Sony DRU-500AX.....$349.99, - This drive it looks like supports both DVD-R & DVD+R. This is rather pointless since neither format supports all standalone player. Get a cheaper Pioneer A05 4X DVD-R for $200

Floppy Drive: Generic 3.5" Floppy Drive.....$12.00, - OMG :O

Keyboard/Mouse: Silver Chieftec Combo.....$24.99, Whatever you want. I like the logitech optical mice you can pick up for $10

IDE Cables: Round Multi-Pack.....$18.99, - fine

Case Fans: 4x 80mm Antec Fans.....$11.96(total) - you don't really need 4 fans. Your computer will take off with all those. Invest in like a $20 CPU fan and you should be ok. Just use whatever fans come with the case. If you notice overheating, you can add fans later.

Power Supply: Icute 350 Watt.....$27.99, - fine.

Speakers: Logitec Z-640 5.1.....$99.99. - You can ge tthese for as low as $42 online

The place to get this stuff would be www.newegg.com or maybe www.mwave.com.

NewEgg is THE best internet computer store ever invented ;o. Everyone loves them and I've spent over $1500 with them. So I trust them ;o. Also their prices can't be beat and they have FAIR shipping prices!

I agree. Newegg is where I got a lot of my parts when I built my computer.
