I want to learn how to use a bass guitar. I took a few lessons from a friend over in new zealand and he said I was a natural at the basics. All I need to do now is get money :P

I hate the normal guitars, I tried to play them but for some reason i can't get them strumming right. Guess I'm a four string person.
I have experience in the double bass, cello, violin, piano, organ, recorder and flute. of course that was when I was still in primary/elementary school, but the organ stayed with me for a while. (Organ music + gothic morbid life = lovely music 3 years ago.)

high school I just tried the normal guitar and ended up for some reason breaking the strings. Still got the guitar though :P somewhere.
As for reading music, I used to be great at it, now that I've not read music in about 3 years, it's all gone so I can't help ya out there SMB but if i re learned it again I might be able to help you out better, as long as it is on music paper :P

Oh and in order to write your own music, you really must have a feel for the story behind it. Without the base of the story told, there is no music to express it. But the experimentation is going about the right way. Now I know you are thinking that you already know that blah blah blah, but really, most people don't realise. It isn't a one off thing, a story isn't a story you read, a story isn't what you are going to sing. The story is the emotion that resides in you that whole time as you play. you start young and free at the beginning before you go all out with a bang of conflict in the middle, then ease off at the end in one effective tune. And that isn't as easy as it looks for beginners.

looks at linkin park for example... one of their songs on meteora, breaking the habit, it took Mike five years to make a song fit with the lyrical idea and with help it was a success. One song can last a lifetime~

Okay enough from me about spirituality and music. What does a big guy like me know about music? anyway, good luck with your music SMB, you will get the song memorised and played with success hopefully. Just keep working at it ^_^

Tabs are best taken together with samples, this way you can actually figure out the proper picking/strumming patterns and ways of playing things easier.

Honestly, even though I find sheet music much tougher to read, in the end it almost always proves more useful than tabs.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

well sheet music is very helpful, and surpasses tab as long as you know how to read it and apply it to the guitar neck. As for me, i can read sheet music but i haven't gotten any practice applying to the guitar ... But one of the major differences between sheet music and tab is that you usualy have to pay for sheet music, which can be a problem for the financialy impaired.
