Matrix isn't really about jack shit, 'cept to "look cool". Anyone who says the story is worth a shit is a dumby. It's all about style.

That said, will I see Reloaded for the story? No
Will I see it for the special effects and style? Yes

But hell, even some of those special effects look lame. Neo flying like super man. >_> pfft.

Anyways.

Matrix is not that great of a series. It's major claim to fame is bullet-time and that has only been used in about 20zillion movies now.

Yea, it's about style. But the story doesn't suck (a rarity among action movies in itself), and it melds so many things together that it really is quite unique.

The superman thing though, that's dumber than hell.
And for that matter, so is Keanu Reeves.

In its defense, the Matrix was groundbreaking in terms of the story that it was bringing to the big screen. Sure those ideas have been played out in various degrees in books and what not, but not really ever on the movie screen.

Also, the bullet-time effect was pretty unique, and I suspect that people's only reason to disliking it now because it is so overdone now. There hasn't been a cinematography technique that has been this much hyped and used for a long time in cinema.

It just has too many fundamental problems, on top of that the movie's full of pointless killing (the lobby scene), I mean, come on, they're butsex to be the good guys? Why the hell are they shooting everyone?

The entire purpose of that scene was for them to get to the helicopter on the roof. So why then, didn't they just ask for a helicopter instead of "We need guns". BAH! BAH I say!

I agree with the aforementioned. The story really isn't 'earth shattering,' the effects are the real crowd-drawer. I agree with the whole bullet time thing, it was really cool when it first came out, but since just about 300 games/movies used that same technique, eh, not as cool anymore. There was actually one movie that did bullet-time(sans bullets) before Matrix... can anyone guess?

I know that lost in space did it, but the actual technique of panning a camera around a stationary object in the centre of the frame was pioneered by a french independant film maker. I forget his name. At least thats what I remember.

Wing Commander used it too, and I believe Fight Club used it for that Dream/sex scene.

Dark City had a plot similar to The Matrix & Lost In Space used the "bullet-timey" effect. Lost In Space needed to be flushed down the toliet. Dark City on the other hand has it's merits. 'Cept Keifer Sutherland needs to be flushed down the toilet.

Dark City was definately far more interesting for me than the Matrix, and Blade also used the bullet time dealy before the Matrix (And in my opinion did a better job of it).
