What does everyone think of bootlegs?

Think of it this way people:
If there were no bootleggers, legit releases would be a lot closer to the bootleg price than what they are today. The more legit releases you buy, the more push is made to making legitamate anime stuffage cheaper to buy.

not neccesarily ... peopel are greedy ... if you just get rid of boot legs prices may drop, but problaby by nothing significant. They will still keep the prices up because now there is ono other source. hypothectcaly the bootlegs would lower the prices because the legit anime ahs to compeate with the bootlegs, so they would have to make it better so it survives ... wait a minuit ... thats boilogy surfacing there ... but you get the point.TekkaRepliroid Zero wrote:Think of it this way people:

Hey, every little bit counts =P.
Although people are greedy, yes, the system of figuring out market demand is how they determine the cost per episode, and if there's no saturation of the market from bootlegs which would = lost sales, then the cost per episode becomes cheaper, and with cheaper anime, more people can afford it, leading to more popularity (by sales stats) which leads to future further-cheaper anime XD

Investing in bootlegs is like investing in a monkey, who happened to come a cross a human who was slightly more stupid then the monkey. But the human, in his infinite stupidity, kindly gave the monkey a computer for which to type the subs to the anime the Stupid Man wished to sell. Now, this was quite troublesome to the monkey, for he didn't know Japanese in the first place, and he didn't know English either. It was a lose-lose situation, but the man went ahead with it, and that's why we get lines such as: "Kenhsin, teh man who of you tried to kill isn't in gaol."
And for those of us who don't speak Japenglimonkey, that reads: "Kenshin, the man who tried to kill you is in jail!"

Oh come on, the grammar is way farther off than that.

Well, no matter what, bootlegs suck big time. I despise bootlegs, and I only get the official stuff. I actually have an eye for spotting the real thing over bootlegs, which I am glad.
I use ebay quite a bit so I can get official anime DVD's at cheaper prices than at a store. I am always bombarded with bootlegged BS. I can't believe how stupid these sellers are. No matter how cheap I can get my favourite anime from these guys, I will never get their awful products. Plus, the packaging really is crap!

As much as I hate to disagree with you pyro, he does have a point. That's how the economy works.TekkaRepliroid Zero wrote:Hey, every little bit counts =P.

wow somone who dosn't liek to dissagree with me ... cool. Bue yea, don't worry, the finer points of finance and economics (such as all of them) just don't seem to work out in my mind. I guess its because in my eyes money has no real value that i ahve trouble understanding these things ... plus i was thinking with biology ... oddly it kinda made sense like that too ... but i can sorta understand why it dosn't work in practice.dwchang wrote:As much as I hate to disagree with you pyro, he does have a point.
