Computer Help (didn't know where else to put it >_< )

Post by the_pixel_pixie » Fri Apr 11, 2003 4:02 pm

Heeeey everyone! I wasn't sure where to put this so I guess the off topic is about the best place to put it. Anyway I plan on getting a new comp sometime within the next month. It will be for making AMV's only....the problem? What kind of computer should I get??? I haven't the faintest idea where to start or what to even look for when getting one. If anyone has any suggestions or knows what kind that wont explode on me the first time I try to capture vid. Please let me know!!!

Thanks all!

For ripping DVD's - Of course, you'll need a DVD-ROM (or you could get a burnner)
If you want to get source from the TV or a video camera - Get a capture card

You'll want a processor that is above 1 GigHz.
Your hard-drive should be around 60-80 gigs, and make sure it spins 7200 rpm with an 8 Mb cache.
Get a CD-Burner
Go with either ATI or NVidia for a video card

A DVD-R is a must as well as a CD-R, does brands matter or is a $500 wal-mart comp just as good?

I've got an interesting computer O_O

p2 333 MHz, like 33 MHz bus
25.6 gb harddrives (15 and an 8.4 I think)
Diamond Viper v770 32 mb
16X DVD-ROM
4X CD-BURNER
NIC Card
A modem
384 RAM (Memory Leak, need new RAM unless I can find a cheaper solution)

I think I need a new comp, but I need to wait a year for graduation, then I'm getting a laptop customized to how I want it then I'm getting a normal PC for other things...

your best off building from scratch, its cheaper (if you know where to look!, i don't for the us, but for the uk, try CCL), you get exactly what you need, i managed to build a top notch pc for just over $1000, but that was 6 month ago, so its a bit dated now, but still, it gets the job done just 2 problems. 1) you need to put it together yourself and 2) you have to buy soft ware seperate. Oh yeah, DO NOT FORGET THE CAPTURE CARD!! i did, and i regreted it ever since, did get gforce 4 6400 thought....
I play violent computer games! I could snap at any minute!!!!
