Haven 01 Staff - Hiring

Post by Jace Tsunami » Sat Apr 12, 2003 4:07 pm

Hey guys, it has come to my attention that my site is too much for me to run all by myself, so I'm hiring a staff.

Now this is going to be a Staff, not volunteer work. I don't really like the idea of depending on random other peoples work too much. I'm looking for a group of people that would like to ebcome official memebers of my site and do a little work on a regular basis. Something like 3 - 5 people at the most.

There won't be any assignments really, or anything like that. It's all free lance work.

I make all of my own media myself, so any staff memebers that want to work in the media section will have to submit only stuff they made 100% This means if you want to submit AMVs that I require you own everything you used. you must have the tapes / DVDs that you ripped the anime from, and you must have the CD you got the music from. Music varies here a little bit tho, like if you're just making a little special video and you use a trademark song everyone knows. Not so much singles like Link Park songs, but stuiff more along the lines of the makarana (sp?). Now, I'm not going to request you own that song.. :? All credit for making a video will be given to the creator, not the site. Perks of working in the media section is hosting. I have 100 megs of space, I can probably host about 2 videos at a time depending on their size. All videos will be listed however and will be available apon request for people who wish to download them.

Now the media section sin't all that importent to me right now, I only mention it because I'm sure it's the highest point of intrest around here.

I'm more looking for reviewers, previewsers, and informationists (general writers). Reviews and previews are great and all, but they're not the thing people read the most. Reviews only express opinions, people want to know solid facts when looking up about something they don't know. So what we also need is for people to write good story analysis. Like say a Toonami kid decides he wants to move onto bigger and better things, he's looking around and sees that a lot of people are into Escaflowne, he's not going to know anything at alla bout the series. Before he sees what some one else thinks of it, he's going to want to have a basic udnerstadning. So we ened people to write what it's about, what type of anime it is, just the general stuff.

The requirments for writing is:

I ask that you either own or have access to what you're writing about
(this excludes rentals, unless it's a cheap videogame you'll never play again)

I ask that you have good experience and knowledge with the product

And Finaly I ask that you be able to utalize the product to the sites benefit.
This may get a little confusing to some people, but it's why I came here to ask for members to join instead of other places first. Most all of us can rip DVDs, so I'm assuming msot everyone can take screen shots as well. If something is submitted to the site, i'm going to want more than a text file that took you 2 minutes to write.

Now it's still free lance work remember, so there isn't really a standard set or anything. I like this because everyone tends to write and do things their own ways. When it comes to request time, it tends to push people to not just request to the site, but that a certain staff members does something. I let you guys pick the way you want to rank reviews yourself, if you evenw ant tor ank them at all, and I let you talk about what you want. for example, when describing a series, one staff members may want to introduce all the characters and provide a snap shot of their faces to go along with the article, while another staff memeber may justw ant to give a general group picture, and focus more on the art work giving a snap shot of a fight scene, or the scenery in general. It's completley up to you guys how you want to do things, but I'm going to ask there's atleast some media to back up your writings. The one picture that's required is what the actual product looks like. Ex: The DVD case the anime or game comes in, you know, the box.

As far as media goes itself, another way to help in that section is if you want to just take snap shots, for the gallery, or if you want to record video or audio clips. There is a ton of stuff that can be done for the site. You could write spoilers, create and manage your own rpg, there's even a humor section.

Now my site has been underconstruction for a long time and is virtually empty, that's why it's more vital now than ever to establish some good content. I've been trying to work on the site for a couple months now, but barley get stuff in. This si why I'm looking to start a staff up.

Here's the website:
http://www.haven01.com

if you're intrested at all e-mail me:
Tsunami@haven01.com

and speaking of e-mail, the one other thing I'm really looking for is news. We need some members to post news every now and then, especialy in the site's newsletter. I've lost touch with Anime quite a bit, so I havn't been to up to date with news. My news letter for the past several issues have mainly just revolved around music and a little surfing.

Thanks for taking the time to read if you're intrested, and get back to me. I don't really have an exact number of how many people I want, so it really just depends on who impresses me.

I think your site needs to die along with the 1000 other sites that "offer" the same other stuff but all the links say "Under Construction" and then they come to boards and ask for help. The help they receive(if any) is going to be crappier than the reviews/previews I read @ animeNfo, AnimeOnDVD, IGN or GameSpot ;o.

Booo. :O

Also with no real business model and knowing the fact that your site is worse than the PRO sites. OMG. What is thy motivation for doing it! :O

well motivation being, that I know a lot of bands personaly. This is not just a crappy fan site, it actually delivers. I release tons of music that hasn't come out yet for people to hear, and I'm alwayts up to date on music news. So it's not just a crappy little site.

And again sorry (for that^) motivation being if you make amvs I'll host them.

Plus like I said, i'm not looking for "crappy" help. I'm not going to elt anyone become a STAFF MEMBER unless they're usefull. I'm going to have to like the eprson's work and see for myself that they're qualified. After that they will become a MEMBER, that works with me constently. As I said above, i'm not too fond of the depending on random peoples random crap, i'm looking for good perminent partners.

I used to get several thousand hits a weeks, but seeing as how my site's been struggling to survive for about a year, and i took a 6 month break during that time, yeah it's pretty crappy right now. Hense this thread. It's too much for me by myself and I'm looking for a dependable staff.

I'm not going to random boards Kliny, I came here and only here, because I know you guys. Everyone else I've been tlaking to about this I've approached in person.

My AIM for anyone who wants to talk about this (SURFERDude00092). There are perks and rewards, however

It
1) depends on the success of the site
and
2) Your efforts

I'm not just going to give a member something that does nothing.

So contact me by e-mail or via AIM if anyone is intrested, or if you just have question in general.

And veldrin, you don't have to own it, just get your hands on a copy of it. If you can use it for a good epriod of time, and you're able to rip anyhting off of it at all, that's enough. So if you know people you can barrow from, get in contact with me.
