Pardon the whining of a n00b, but...

Post by Enuii » Sat Aug 03, 2002 5:38 am

...might it not be an improvement if certain links were set to open new windows instead of being acessed through an existing instance of browser? I'm talking about things like the reply button and such.

If the issue isn't applicable or has been discussed, ignore.

If not, discuss?

Even if I were using an alternative browser that supports not such features? I speak for everybody, even those who are raging against the machine with an alternative browser.

Sure, but you still haven't said which pages you think this would be a good idea for.

In any case, which browser do you use that doesn't support a way of opening in a new window? IE does, Mozilla does, Netscape does, Opera does. I don't know anything about Mac browsers so I cant speak for them but I'm sure 'nix browsers have far more functionality than the browsers mentioned above.

Oh and text-only browsers? Well, I think people who use them have already ran away at the sight of spacer.gif spacer.gif spacer.gif. ^_^

I personally like to choose the method in which a page is opened and it's much easier to open a page in another window instead of the current one than it is to open a page in the current window instead of a new one.

Oh and javascript-type popup windows are evil and should be avoided as much as possible.

Sites forcing windows to be popped up = bad

If I want a link to open in a "new" window, I manually tell it to open in a new window. However, I find it freaking annoying if I want a link to open in the same window and the site forces it to pop up into a different window.

Reply, Quote, New Topic, and Profiles. I often quote a couple of posts in a thread when on forums, and it usually comes in handy.
