As I do not know how to work a computer, I was TRYING to give words of hope through your troubled times. DVD drives can be a bitch to install, but when they're in, they're worth it. Try searching online for some websites. There has to be one that can help.

I'll assume you already have a CDRW or something in your comp.

You probably need to set the little jumper pin on the back of the DVD to "slave" mode: there should be a sticker or stamping in the metal on the top or bottom at the back of the drive, that maybe looks sort of like this:

Code: Select all

CS SL MA
and on the back, 3 sets of pins sort of "below" the sticker/stamping.
Many drives come set to "Master" from the factory, so try to figure out which pair of pins its on, and which pair of pins it SHOULD be on to be the slave drive, and move the jumper. Like so:

Code: Select all

Master- : : [:]
Slave- : [:] :
CS is cable select, I doubt you'll need or want to use that.

Make sure to attach the ribbon cable correctly, most only go on one way, but some old ones can be put on the wrong way, and don't forget to plug the power connector in.

ok, now both of the drives seem to be working (they can say what is on the CD.) but twice now I've had to eject the CD and then when the blue screen of death pops up click esc to make it stop reading. (this is the CD-RW drive.)

Y'know, even though you got it hooked up and everything, you could've just gone to the place you bought it from, or could've called and/or looked up the company name for help =/..
