software flaw for windows users... you probably already know

Post by Summanaro » Fri Mar 21, 2003 6:39 pm

My mom left this for me to read from my local newspaper(I won't type the whole damn article :P):

Microsoft corp. was warned about a serious flaw in ALL versions of the popular Windows software that could allow hackers to seize control of a person's computer when victims read e-mail or vist web sites.
Microsoft assessed the porblem's urgency as critical, highest level, and urged custormers to download a free reparing patch immediately:

The problem involves tricking Windows into processing an unsafe code built into a web page or an e-mail address.
(some guy) confirmed that the faulty software code was created years ago.
/end article

So I'm sure most of you people have known about this years and years ago, especially when there was that last comment I stated. But I'm just giving a heads-up to people who have no knowledge of computers. I think this thing was used in the very beginning of the hacker revolution/Windows revolution. I thought it was quite funny when they only found out about this in December 2002, when it's been used since like when Windows 98 was out..
your mom.

I just checked my computer for updates......

Only had two but one of them was for this very thing, now I'm updateing while leaving this post.

 I am never going to ignore the update pop ups again.
I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it.

Never explain--your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway.

Money can't buy friends, but it can get you a better class of enemy.
