actually I was sitting and thinking and asking myself the very question of what is so great about HK's. and I think I have a few reasons figured out!
Firstly, they are not downloaded fotage, which is specificaly against the rules, so by fades law, they are still ok to use. Ethicaly, they are probably worse than downloaded footage since they are an entire industry devoted to stealing from the real people doing hte domestic releases. But why buy them then? well with series you will never reach the quality that the Domestic DVD's hav,e but they are still a league and a mile better than downloaded footage. look at it this way.
8 eps on one DVD means that if the DVD held 4 gigs then you have 8 400 to 500 meg eps in MPEG-2, and hopefuly audio took a backseat to video quality meaning you get footage better than the best fansub or domestic DVD dip. And lets not forget that the people doing the HK rips are probably using better equipment than the fansubbers or domestic DVD rippers so that is another + to add to the pile, and then lastly the ability to turn off the subs, and the fact that they are dirt cheap anyway, means that they are still a better choice of footage for AMV's than downloaded footage. And then if you have a movie, the quality will be even better than a series. And some releases just ke too long (the CB movie for one)
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab
