well that's what I was basically trying to say...a beginner button masher won't win against a skilled "veteran" because they have that counter ability. after a while the skilled player can pick up on the beginner's pattern and counter all of them. but if you were to play another game...like tekken.... a beginner can finish you off with using just one move and I hate that!!Kracus wrote:eh wrong, DOA does have that flaw (which is easily over come as long as you know how to play the game you can beat anyone who does that, I've never had a problem beating a button masher).

yes, by reaching down and moving the C stick, which is gay since the system they had in the FIRST GAME WAS BETTER.Roke wrote:Dude, you don't have to wait until the smash attack was at full power. You can do it faster than that.CaTaClYsM wrote:With the N64 half the games dont even USE the D pad on the left. (smash brothers being one) but on the GC, they decided that they were going to crap all over the smashes and have you reach down with your right thumb to do a regular smash, while the regular smash command ( moving to a specific direction and hiting the A button at the same time) Mkae your person FREEZE and FLASH like some sort of WARNING signal, and after about 8 years he does a smash move.

No, smashing the way it was with the original game with "tapping" the main analog stick and hitting A at the same time. It's just that the longer you hold it, the stronger it is. You don't have to reach for the C stick.

This is why I love the game. You need to know what you're doing. I forget what show it was, but when reviewing SSB and SSBM, they called them low level fighting games, perfect examples of button mashing games. I nearly fainted at those remarks. Then they said DOA 3 (which I do love), is a very skill needing game. This is when I tuned them out, and just whatched the nice screen shots.CaTaClYsM wrote:It is my belief that smash brothers is THE textbook example of a good fighting game. It just LOOKS shallow because it is a mascot fighting game. I had been under the impresion it was a novelty shallow game, then I went a fought someone else who owned the game. He beat the living crap out of me, he was knocking me all over hyrule castle as Ness, while I, as falcon, could do little to nothing. Then I decided it was time to figure out exactly what it was I was doing, so I started training on timed games against teams of lvl 9 links, while I switched off between every character in the game. Then I went and went through one player on one life and when I died I would start from the begining again. Now, I'm beating him, and noone else is even willing to play against me.
I used the C-Pad for 64 as jumping. I didn't like the response time for pressing up on the joystick.
I never touch the C-joystick for GC. I just ignore it. lol

Not to talk too much on this topic, but SSB:M is NOT a button masher. You button mash, you WILL get your ass handed to you. DOA3 Is a perfect example of a button masher (But that doesn't mean that's all you have to do.). (Capcom vs. SNK 2: EO, too.) I was doing just as well as my friends while mashing buttons. I don't even like the game, either. But then again, the best player there was using the controller with all the ketchup in it so the buttons were hard to press in.
Anyway, was that Tech T.V.? I hate those bastards.

the DOA games as a whole are flawed, because the strategy is to find the cheapest move or the longest combo.

When we have big groups of people playing and narrow down to the top players for the last game, a huge portion of the game play is dodging. Mid-air dodge, blcoking and rolling dodge take up 50% of the game play. And nothing is funnier than hitting people down, when they are of the edge of the level, and floating back, with kirby or mewtwoAnime Jedi wrote:This is why I love the game. And DOA3 is a lot more than button mashing. I got to play it about this time last year when on a "field trip". Some of the combos you can do with the characters are amazing. And I really liked that you could not only block, but also grab and throw while your character parries.

I really love DOA... first off, Hayabusa is there!
That guy is my hero, I wish they'd kept his original costume.
The gamplay is complex, yet it is very easy to learn, though not so to master. Especially on DOA3, where the environment can be actively used...(jumping and running up walls, etc...)
Third, the counter system makes trhe fights look more realistic and makes people think twice about throwing the longest combos several times...
Fourth, its a fluid game, kind of like soulcalibur, my other fighting favourite... I hate the stiffness in the moves from tekken and Virtua fighter.
And the Ladies!! Don't forget the bouncy ladies!!!
(did you guys hear about the "topless" cheat in DOAX?)

I like bugging people. Deal with it.
