Umm...
Is it bad when folders with names like "FWMC0000.tmp" mysterously pop up on your desktop and in a couple folders, and you have no idea where they came from?

I had a similar problem with my old system, then i began running firewalls and *BOOM* problem solved. As per my server system, when online it gets hacked so often I find totally new folders all over it. One time there was a conversation being held in TXT files in one folder. Poor bastards didn't realize that was it's function; hecne the PC's name: "Honeypot."
We all know how it is, you go to download christain music and in reality recieve hardcore smut. Women hanging from chandeliers, whips, chains, the total package.
Solution:
Either reimage your HDD once a night, everynight, untill satiated.
or
Download Adaware, run a firewall, and deal with the inconvieneces. The only way to totally prevent said problems to go off line all together. And you wouldn't want to do that. If you left we would
True that! true that.MegaMouth wrote:Maybe. If you have Kaazaa, it is perfectly normal. Cuz Kaazaa dls porn without your asking.

I would find it pretty retarded for a "cracker" to put a .tmp folder on someones desktop. Most likely it's some program in the background using your desktop as a temp folder
Kazaa doesn't randomly download porn either >_>.
Get KazaaLite >_> and no porn pop-ups will show.
Hacking a server is not like the easy thing to do. Unless, you have non-password protected shares >_> or running a piece of software that allows for a exploit. Then it can be really easy... :\

Tell that to my PC! Damn thing has a porn mind of it's own.klinky wrote:Kazaa doesn't randomly download porn either >_>.
Not that there is anything wrong with that!
Case in point. It IS a honeypot, thought that was clear.klinky wrote:Hacking a server is not like the easy thing to do. Unless, you have non-password protected shares >_> or running a piece of software that allows for a exploit. Then it can be really easy... :\
Crazy not stupid.
It was realisically only ment to take the focus off my PC and Mac. The server work was only a side effect of the decision. Besides this isn't exactly my work server, it's a home file server. Hence the reason I have yet to host MY AMVs there. It's a dinky ass unit, meant only for the share between my neighbor and I. If I wanted to kill my bandwidth I would, but for now (basically until I can aford a second modem) it's mainly a honeypot.

o_O how are they hacking into your honeypot?
What exploits?
If you know they're hacking in, you might as well fix the problem. What's the difference the between letting them hack in & not letting them hack in
There's always the chance that once they hack into that system, they can hack into your others
With a firewall in place though, it's not likely they can hack in at all

Thus is the point in runnning a "honeypot." They hack and screw up that system all night and neglect my others. I run a firewall on my other systems, making just that much more tempting to fuck with the honeypot. And *BAMM* I'm safe. I just reimage everyday or so and all is well.klinky wrote:o_O how are they hacking into your honeypot?

Not necissarily true. An experinced hacker can break through zone alarm with out too much hassle. And I'm sorry but ever since my system was hacked many MANY years ago [I was using a 9600 BOD, what does that tell you?] I have been a glutton for security. Maybe others disagree but it's my party and I'll be a paranoid bastard if i want to. Nothing is absolute, but I feel this is the best solution.klinky wrote:With a firewall in place though, it's not likely they can hack in at all
