I'm sorry, if I saw a parent slap their kid in the face I'd have the police and family services stepping in on the child's behalf. Physical punishment by a parent might have its place as a correctional tool, but there are limitations to extent to which the punishment should be carried out.

Well that's you, but to me a slap to the face isn't a big deal because I've seen much worse. In Oriental countries like China, Taiwan, or Japan they're common disciplinary actions. I saw a Kindergarten teacher slap a misbehaving kid across the face once when I visited Taiwan when I was young. And that was considered a warning. Most kids are smart enough to not get the teachers peeved enough to take out the whipping sticks. If you want to talk about real abuse the things that parents do are often even harder on their kids than what the teachers do. I saw my Aunt beat one of my cousins black and blue with a ladle. Now that was child abuse and was really scary, she kept saying how worthless he was too. Now though, that cousin is a respected doctor and the most successful of his brothers. He doesn't blame my Aunt for any kind of emotional or mental scar that might've left on him at all. To sum things up, a slap across the face isn't abuse, it is a way to let a kid know that they're way out of line.

Does he not blame his aunt because he honestly believes she did him no harm, or because he is still subconsciously afraid of her reaction?

If no one else noticed, Anime News Network has kept a list of edits here:

Have fun kids.
Personally, I think Cartoon Network has to die for this insult to some of our Subcultures favorite anime.

The former, or so he tells me anyways. It only happened once, and he was in junior high at that time. But if something like that had happened to me I would have been traumatized for sure. Then again my auntie used to be a teacher in Taiwan and my parents were like agricultural majors and p.h.ds so they spoiled me rotten pretty much. :D

If so, I'll be more'n happy to lambaste Cartoon network for this.
Judging from this Kyle Pope qoute...
BTW... Though it is not my policy to include language edits of Toonami shows as it is a given that such language would be removed, I included them here because of the Katsucon 2003 report that these would run uncut. I therefore felt it proper that I inform you of everything that has been changed to the best of my ability.
It sounds like ADV or CN had promised these would run uncut. Guess they lied. :|
