Newbie needs help

Post by IceReaperX303 » Fri Feb 07, 2003 12:32 pm

I have episodes I download. What program would be good for compressing this? Also what good audio compressor should I use?

This should be moved over to either general video help, or video software help.

You haven't told us what format these episodes are in. That would be helpful to know.

Oh, and your sig is too large:

You downloaded AVIs? Were they compressed in any way to begin with (DivX or XviD)? What resolution?

Divx usually around 580 width and 320 width not sure what height. They are good quality dvd rips no doubt. When I make music vids it always seems my files come out extremely large even when i compress with divx 5.0.2

The site has a policy against using downloaded material and pirating, if that's the case here. You'll have to take it up with Phade.

Other than that, have fun.

"extremely large" isn't accurate enough. The range 60-90 MB should be considered average for MPEG4 (DivX or XviD) .avi compresses of normal (3-5 minute) length videos at 512+ pixels width with a reasonably hi-fi audio track.

If you're getting filesizes well above this, you might want to check your video bitrate settings (2000-3000 Kbps should be sufficient) and your audio compression. Uncompressed .wav is more space intensive than 128/44 mp3 by a factor of about 10, so this could be a major source of bloat. Read the guides or search the forum for information on the LAME mp3 encoder, most people will swear by it.

Even if I could, I wouldn't. A small FREE program like the Lame encoder, coupled with BeSweet (and the BeSweet GUI) purpose-built for the task, is a load better in my mind.
