The Doctoral Thesis of AMV's

Okay, here's a serious project for consideration. Take the song Art of Life, by X-Japan, and make an AMV out of the whole thing. Now, I've timed this song at twenty-nine minutes, so you figure another minute for studio blurb and credits will run this project to a full half-hour of finished product. I have no real idea about what shows to use, as the song itself is so diverse, from driving speed metal, to rock opera, to a five-minute or so cacophony of this guy banging on a piano in the middle of the song. >.< There are lyrics, in English, as well as this <i>sotto voce</i> spiel by a woman. Opinion/comment/suggestions welcome.

Here's a suggestion: you're fucking crazy. Making a 1/2 hour AMV is
going to be a bloody long project, so I certainly hope that you dont have
a short attention span. Since you say that the pace and rhythm etc of the
song change dramatically throughout the song, I would suggest that you
use a different anime for each section.

Indeed. Do a shorter X Japan song, like Rose of Pain. I believe the proper term for slow piano-y rock pieces is called Rock Ballad, not Rock Opera. X Japan is known for its Rock Ballads.

I'd wait until all the X TV episodes are out, and use them, since X Japan did the ending song for the X Movie, it seems fitting to use X footage for a X Japan AMV.

You're right, Klin, it is rock ballad. My bad. Pierrot, fucking crazy I may be, but the topic title should have clued you in that I knew already that this wasn't going to be some two-hour slap-together piece of crap. < /rant > The entire purpose of bringing this song up for consideration is that Rose of Pain, while a great song, has been done. No one else has the balls, brains or patience to try an epic like this. Klin, you sound like you've heard this before, d'you have any suggestions about what shows/movies to pull on this one, aside from X? Pierrot's idea of switching shows with segments has merit, I think.

By saying you're crazy, I don't mean to dissuade you from doing this at all. It's just that I considered the fact that it usually takes me about three to four weeks to make a good 3-4 minute AMV, so by that standard it
would take ME a couple months to make.
