where do you guys get your raws from?
Yo, new to this whole amv business, though im getting into it now and am getting really tired of messing with subbed junk. So, i was wondering if anyone could tell me where you find your raws, as i have had no luck finding them with any consistancy. Hopefully ill get some $$ so i can go get a video capture card and some decent dvds soonish like so i dont have to work with them, but for the time, any help would be most appreciated.

People get their raw footage from DVDs or VHS capture. The guides have more info.

see, i would love to use unsubbed dvd, but that would require a) a video capture card (i think), and b) some unsubbed dvds. Due to my extreme lack of money, i get all my stuff off of this one site (discountanimedvd.com, if you havent heared of it, its basically the stuff straight out of japan before they put the dubs in, so its cheaper but it lacks the fancy non subbed version, making it pretty worthless as far as amv usage goes
. I was wondering more about site wise, for some downloadable raws (despite its illegalness, its all ive got for now
), i dont know if this forum will let people post stuff like that though, so if they dont, then i guess im on my own. At anyrate, im doing ok without them for the time, i have about 1/4 of my first video done, and i personally think its coming out pretty damn good for a first vid. Looking forward to getting it done and seeing what everyone thinks. Thanks again for any help you provide, im off to go work on it some more

All you need is a DVD drive and some DVDs, which, when you rip them, the subtitles aren't included. It's as simple as that. Getting them from someone else is illegal, and though ripping DVDs is as well, you are still supporting anime. Freeloaders will find no approval here.

Well, that's what you get for buying bootlegs. If you want removal softsubs, buy the legal R1 releases. The answer is staring you in the face.
It's odd that you're concerned about the legality of downloading raws while you don't seem to have any issue with purchasing bootlegs, seeing as the latter is very much illegal and probably far more ethically questionable.

Come to think of it, don't bootlegs usually have softsubs anyway? More often than not, they have both a Chinese and English track...seems that wouldn't exactly work well with hardsubs.

You might want to look on the "heads up" portion of this forum, as sale info on legit DVDs is often available.
Get yourself a DVD drive. They're not very expensive at all anymore ($50-$70 from Best Buy). You'll also need a large (60-80GB) hard drive if you don't already, because ripped DVD footage is big. All the software you need to rip DVDs is available through links from this site and its guides.
If you can't afford to buy DVDs, try looking at video rental stores or even your local library. Heck, I can get any number of anime DVDs from Blockbuster Video. Surely you have friends with anime DVDs too.
