Sound too good to be true? It is. I checked this out, and found it to be a service of Sony, which does not have the world's best track record on tolerating fair use. Then there's these sections from their agreement:BigDude wrote:www.imagestation.com The ONLY downside is: the videos cant be any bigger than 40MB, other than that its perfect!

4. Member Content; Member Private Area; Community Area
You agree not to post, send, transmit, upload, display, publish or distribute through any part of the Site, any Member Content that:
(a) Uses materials of others that are protected by copyright, trademark or trade secrets, patent or other intellectual property law without the express permission of the author or owner;
(c) Violates anyone's copyright, moral rights, author's rights, trade secrets, trademark rights, patent, or other intellectual property or other rights;
6. License Grant and Intellectual Property Rights
In consideration for the Service, and the potential benefits related thereto, you grant ImageStation, its successors, licensees and assigns, a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty free license to use, modify, reproduce, distribute, publish, publicly perform, and publicly display your Member Content, by all means now known, or later created, including but not limited to display on the Internet, and in all forms of media, now known or later created.
So it's perfect; until your videos become popular enough for them to notice a bandwidth spike and ban you for violating ToS, or until they decide to sell your content and not pay you for it. Why on earth would anyone use this service unless they didn't read this license? I get so much interest as it is *without* direct downloads that I wouldn't be able to use this long for AMV hosting, and reading that #6 there's no way I'd ever consider something like this for all-original content.

To answer my own question... I FOUND A PLACE!! God bless Sony, you guys have my blessings.
OK, here's how it works, SONY has a site called http://www.imagestation.com which is a place for you to host images. You can put your image in an album and email it to friends for their viewing pleasure. The thing that separates imagestation from the rest is that you can also upload videos. NOTE, this isn't a workaround or a bug exploitment, they actually TELL YOU that you can upload videos. Videos may not be greater then 40 megs in size (which is plenty for most videos under 4 minutes). Now for the really cool part. There are NO overall space limits. Sony gives you "unlimited" space, and they advertise it. All you have to do is put a link up to your album (has to be indirect, but that's OK!), and you're all set to go!
This place actually worked! It's unbelievable! Listen, at least to me, this sounds like what EVERY AMV newbie is desperately looking for, so I'm going to post a thread sticky for it, k?

hey, caveat's a caveat. For a newb it is probably fine, but others should bear in mind that this is just yet another host that can only be used as long as they don't notice you're violating their ToS.BigDude wrote:Thats what I was trying to say, but them Kai had to go and tell everyone that its bad, which its not!
In the end, when it comes to hosting*, you have good, free, and reliable: pick any two.

I'm probably just gonna get stuff thrown at me for this but why not KaZaA(lite at least)? I mean it does work and I have gotten videos from there before. Given you will have to be online to share it with others but that's the great part about having freinds and such with DSL
I just think this is vastly overlooked as a good resource I of course hav't read the other thread where kazaa may be talked about but form this I don't see why not.

It's not vastly overlooked, and it's not the worse solution in lieu of nothing else. But once again the issue of reliability comes into play, and Kazaa is anything but reliable (Unless you're hosting a server, in which case you could just cut out the middle man).Onemessedupjedi wrote:I'm probably just gonna get stuff thrown at me for this but why not KaZaA(lite at least)? Everyone is not the same as you.
Get over it.
And lighten up.
