Had an interesting weekend...
There's a little gaming/sci-fi con down here in Williamsburg, VA (which also has a small anime room) which I decided to attend over the weekend. Anyway, shortly after arriving a friend informed me that there was a copy of the DDR Project II DVD for sale in the dealer's room. I found that a little odd, so when I went to the dealer's room later that evening I decided to look for it.
Saw the DVD case sitting there pretty quickly (he only appeared to have 1, unless more were hidden under the tables). Picked it up and looked it over. No price tag. But almost instantly the dealer appeared behind me, and informed me of the price he was charging. $40. Holding back the laughter as best I could, all I said was a low-key "Really..." His response: "Yeah, that's cheaper than you can get it on the internet."
Took everything in me to keep from busting out laughing right then and there. But I held my composure for a few more minutes, set the DVD down, informed him that I had attended AWA and met quite a few of the creators. Would have quoted the actual internet price to him if I had remembered it at the time, and confronted him if I had anyone there to back me up. But still it was enough that he suddenly seemed a little uneasy, and turned to another customer quickly. Thus providing me with the opportunity to go around the corner and let out the laughter I had been holding back so long.
So in summary: Damn bootleggers trying to make a hefty profit off this stuff. Wish I still had my map of the dealer's room, so I could get his name, but I think I may have lost it...

I can just see it now, the end of the world in 5 minutes and a boolegger selling bootlegged AMV videos claiming there is enough time to have the pleasure of watching at least one for only $199.99...

It sounds to me like the guy worked for Suncoast's marketing division as a day job, with the prices he charges. Either that, or he has no idea what he's talking about (or, more probable, hopes that you don't).
Good thing you knew that the real thing is only $20. I wouldn't be surprised to see that the guy has an auction up on eBay. Hell, was it even the real DVD? Or did he make a copy of it?
