O.o <= who else gets a look like that when you rent anime

Post by Liquid_Polar » Thu Jan 23, 2003 6:42 pm

I live in nz and its pretty goddamn anime deprived I'm happy ta say theres a vid store that has been slowly stocking it though, maybe its 'cos I been there a few times and spent like a hundred bucks recently thats bout 40 US.
I go and rent anime and here are some things that happen...

1) On those recent video rental visits the checkout gal begins ta flirt with me and goes on bout anime and all, now I would guess shes trying ta get me for money and thinking 'He can waste that sort of money?' Truth is I can't I have a spending problem can't help it, and 2ndly if she did'nt notice I can't be that rich I also rented out a video machine as I don't own one

or

2) You ask where there anime section is 'cos ya can't find it and they don't know what the hell it is, so you tell them some bad examples that gets you laughed at and a weird look such as - 'Anime you know, japanese animation, umm magna?(that sometimes works)' or if their still looking at you blankly you say something like 'Pokemon, DBZ and Digimon, that kinda stuff' then ya get the look and the laugh and they point you into a isle where there is racks full of those 3 animes and other cartoons..mainly for lil kids.Lucky me I finnaly found a place where I won't get dissed for it.

Anything like that happened to you before?
I attend school now and am too busy ta spend much time here =\ so ya, ya hardly gonna see me much..

in the states, there are a lot of anime rental stores. Places that specify in only renting out anime related merch. Videos, dvds, mags, books, games, all that type of shit. So basicly what I'm saying is our video stores (such as blockbuster) don't have anime sections, but we do have anime stores.

yeah, you could just buy it at stores like suncoast and best buy, but like it's been said, it's expensive. We have lots of small stores that just have a massive liabrary to rent shit out.

they're normaly not mainstream places or anything, pretty consealed. Just try looking them up on the internet, or next time you go to a convention ask around. I'm sure you have something. Mine's about 15 miles away, I didn't even know it was there until i'd been here 3 years.

I hate Blockbusters organization... There is a small 'Animation' section where I live. This is only for VHS though... But in DVD... They have about twice the number of titles, but they are spread out through the Action, Comedy, and New Releases. EVERYWHERE! They need some kind of computerized organization, with computers at the corners of some aisles, so I can at least find what I'm looking for.
I do have to admit that their alphabetical organization is outstanding, but they could go for an 'Anime' or 'Animation' DVD section...

Best buy lately has had a growing section of anime. But damn you have to see the suncoast collection to believe it. Literally a fucking WALL of thin DVD cased animes...everything from Ah my Goddess to whatever starts with Z lol. a huge DBZ complete collection and Sailor Moon, Love hina, Fushigi Yugi, Yu gi oh, you name it its probably in there.
