anyway, according to The Anime Companion by Gilles Poitras the closest he got to the answer was when a person said that his mother said that you'll get a nosebleed if you look at a pretty girl. maybe it's a japanese saying.

or that "rush" theory could work too.

anyway...ive had a personal experience. while visiting relatives for a wedding in japan, i got to sample the tokyo hot springs. that water is freaking HOT. i literally saw steam coming directly from my skin!! so my blood was really circulating. on top of that this was a co-ed (with towels for those curious) spring so just seeing the local women added to the water temperature got me a nosebleed.

so in theory it can be caused by very hot water added to the girls since most of those situations are in hot springs. but then those that are not i guess it's just to replace the image of a male's example of good health.

That's exactly where I saw it from. That scene is really funny. Nicholis (sp?) gets the full shock of seeing a girl like that for the first time. ^_^

Since the "nose-bleed" thing is supposed to funny, I guess it really is a mock of that Japanese saying. (You'll get a nose-bleed if you see a pretty girl.)

I actuall had one (a nosebleed) on two seperate occasions involving an encounter with lady and one of them was a real gusher, so it's definately something that CAN happen. But they say that when talking to a woman a mans testostrone levels get higher, and I assume that could be accompaned by an incressed heart rate, so that may have something to do with it. Just in case your wondering that big nosebleed was in public and I must have lost at least half a pint (I mean she was hot)
