Most fans of Yu Yu Hakusho tend to end up liking Hunter X Hunter since it was done by the same creator. A few YYH fans tend to like HxH better, I haven't seen HxH myself.

Negative Post Warning!
Quite truly, one of the worst anime my club attempted last year. It faired worse than Rah-Xephon, and did only a bit better than Kokoro Library and Love Hina. I definitely agree with these stats. Don't bother with it.
If you want something that has some similarity (Only one episode of HxH was screened, for good reasons) try The Boy Who Saw the Wind. If you want bears, monster fish, kids who can talk to animals, and a family-type movie thing, this will do the job.

Anime should be rated on two scales... one for content, one for eye candy. =P
