My expression on seeing someone still using a magnetic tape storage format in 20 years: quizzical.look on your face 20 years from now when my betamax is still running and you've bought your 5 VCR.

Hey they are both 3 letter acronyms that start with V, it's a simple mistake. oh, do any of you people know what a beta's resolution is? If I were using any any form of magnetic tape storage 20 years from now it would sooner be beta than VHS. Do you people even know what a beta's resolution is compared to VHS? 400 to 250. I would say that that is a decent difference, and I could probably record off a satelite and get a better picture than a store bought VHS tape.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

actually.. IIRC beta has around 500 lines of resolution vs VHS's 240 (SVHS has 400, along with various other 3/4 formats.)
i wouldnt rely on beta myself. VTRs are already hard to find, and if the one you're using dies, you're gonna be hard up for getting replacement parts. not to mention only sony makes the tapes now.
not to mention NTSC is going to be long dead in 20 years. and so will those oh so holy beta tapes of yours.

THere are plenty of places online where I can buy parts if one breaks. And NTSC may be dead in 20 years, that means that for the next 19 I use a VHS instead?dj-ohki wrote:actually.. IIRC beta has around 500 lines of resolution vs VHS's 240 (SVHS has 400, along with various other 3/4 formats.)

well add up how much a DVD-Rdeck would be to set up compared to the beta one. and evne though beta has 80 less lines or resolution, the video and audio isn't compressed so it isn't like it is THAT much worse than DVD would look. (I'm not saying beta is better, just that it isn't THAT much worse.)
