Org Rebuild: It’s not just programming

Hey Everyone!

There are several goals with the site rebuild. The obvious one is the user interface look-and-feel along with modernizing the forum. But, we also want to revamp how information is stored, where information comes from, and who can help confirm things are correct. While these first two are generally technical in nature, the third one is accessible to technical and non-technical persons.

While the super-nerds (like me) are busy doing super nerdy stuff, I wanted to highlight a few of the things that regular nerds people can do to help out with the rebuild.

Functionality Testing
Are you really great at breaking stuff? We need you! While the backend nerds are shuffling data around and the frontend folks are making things look great, it’s great to have someone else thinking outside the box. This is where functionality testers come in! Your job is to take what has been meticulously and lovingly created and smash it with a hammer!! Do unnatural things that were never intended, write it down for us to fix, and then laugh in triumph. Muuaahh ha haha!!!

Accessibility Specialist
While most members go about their usual browsing, some audience members have different requirements when it comes to enjoying the site. While it never occurred to me when I originally created the site (mainly because I was dumb), I would like to be accommodating to those who may have color blindness or use screen readers or any other accessibility considerations. If you have these requirements and would like to ensure that others find the site easy to use, please let us know so that we can be more informed and accommodating.

Project Manager
Are you good at getting people to do their homework using only positive reinforcement? We REALLY need you!! (Especially for me) Our team members are top-notch, but sometimes we (and I mean me) get distracted and forget to do the things we need to do. This is where a project manager comes in! You don’t have to be technical or nerdy or anything like that in order to check in with the folks who are working on things. Sometimes we just need a gentle reminder that people are counting on us!

Partner Development
Are you good at talking with other really important people who can help us out? Recently, Momocon partnered with the Org to get a new server refresh so that we can keep going for the next 10 years. I would like to keep that ball rolling, not only with Momocon but also with other potential partners as well. This will ensure the Org has what it needs to stay alive for years to come!


But once we have the site up and running, we will need other non-technical help in order to keep the site going, like an education coordinator (wiki maintenance), donation manager, and AMV curator (for keeping AMV info tidy and correct)
