it is an evangelion wannabe, it is better in the characters since there is no asuka or gendo, but liked evan better.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

It is NOT an Evangelion wannabe. Everyone says it's a rip off of Eva just because it's a mecha and makes you think about life. The plots are completely different, the soundtracks are completely different, the animation, the characters, everything about it is completely different from Eva. RahXephon kicks ass. I highly recommend this series, because it kicks ass.

the coming of age story of a teenage boy destined to save the world with his mech. Sounds like eva to me. But the animation was worse, there was less action, the fights were worse, and the story mode less sense than Eva's. And I don't know why, but when I was re-watching it, I kept falling asleep.

The story made way more sense than Eva's. I've seen countless threads on anime forums about "WTF? The ending of Eva" or something similar. I think I've seen all of one person need the ending to RahXephon explained to them.and the animation being worse than Eva is your opinion, not fact. I liked the animation in RX more than the animation in Eva. You also talk about the battles being worse. Who cares? The battles are not the focus of the show, the plot is. The battles are almost an afterthought in RX. You say that the plot is similar. Well, it is a coming of age story about a boy, true, but so are roughly 50000 other animes, and they don't get compared to Eva. The only reason you're comparing these two is because they are both mecha.

Rah Xephons animation was done bright and cheery. The colors were vivid and the people looked like they were rejected drawings from the didgimon show.
But back to how this is an Eva wannabe... The main character in Rah Xephon and Shinji both have issues with their mother. Both have issues with women in general. And both had the power to controle the fate of the earth in the ending of the show. Not similar enough yet? How aobut the way shinji had to live with Misato. The guy from rahxephon had to live with that one chick that found him.
