PILCON 2017 AMV/FMV Contest (Winners announced!)

Hi, everyone! I work at a public library in Peabody, MA, and we're holding PILCON, our first-ever pop culture convention, on Saturday, May 6.

One of the events at PILCON 2017 will be an AMV/FMV contest. Any video source is eligible, be it from TV, film, games, comics, or any other medium; animated or live-action; Japanese, Western, or from anywhere else. We don’t have any set categories, themes, or anything like that, but we may divide the videos into categories if we get a lot of entries.

If any of you have any videos you would like to submit, we would love to see them! I know it’s kinda short notice, but the deadline is Sunday, April 30. You don’t have to attend PILCON to submit, but I encourage you to check it out if you’re in the area. Admission is free, and if you win Best in Show (as determined by audience vote), you can get a 3D printed trophy from us.

I don't see any freshness requirements, so we can submit previously made videos?

My parents are both librarians (mother has a MA in Library Science from University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne, and father has a MA in Library Science and Information... Systems? Technology? I think... from University of Texas at Austin).

I like libraries. Libraries are awesome. I grew up in them, considering.

Yes! We decided against including a freshness rule since this is our first year, and as a small con, we wanted to remove as many barriers to entry as possible. Assuming we get to do this again next year, we will probably add a freshness rule then. But for now, videos from any time will be gladly accepted.

The judging phase has officially ended! Thank you all for your wonderful videos, and for supporting a new, small con like us- as well as for your patience while we voted and calculated the results. We received 52 videos from 28 editors, which is far more than we ever anticipated! We were blown away by the quality and quantity of entries we received.

We received enough videos to sort them into categories; all finalists will be informed when the categories are determined. This Saturday, the attendees of PILCON will vote for the category winners and Best in Show, and we will also be giving a Judges’ Choice award. The winners will be announced at Closing Ceremonies, and will be posted online after the convention.
