Confused and Stuck With My First AMV

Post by yonirots » Sat Mar 04, 2017 7:08 pm

Hello everyone,
It's been a long time that I want to make my first AMV and now I finally have some time to start working on it.

During this past week I made an excel file with all the footage sorted by frame numbers (I used vdub) I want to work with after watching Naruto all over again from the beginning (it took a week).
Now I forgot it's not that easy to make an AMV and I'm confused and stuck because I don't know how to take and export all the footage I've collected and edit them in Vegas, in which container, how to compress and decompress it and so on…

I'm reading the guide that is on the forum , but it's still pretty hard.
My AMV is only for Youtube purposes, for my own fun.

I'm not claiming to be an expert AMV maker, but I do want to learn and to do the best I can because I've already spent a whole week on this and also because I'm a perfectionist, so I want it to be as close to perfect as it can be.

I'll appreciate your help and guidance.

Thanks,
Yoni.

I recommended that you check out this guide on prepping footage. https://www.amv101.com/guides/preparing-source

here is the section specifically on working with mkvs and mp4s
https://www.amv101.com/guides/preparing ... ng-mkv-mp4
(I'd personally suggest option B for Vegas users in particular)

Sorry to bother you again, but how do I know what to do in step 5?
"In the “Select video compression” box, select either:
UtVideo YUV420 BT.709 (HLH0) VCM (For footage that was originally HD)
or
UtVideo YUV420 BT.601 (HLY0) VCM (For footage that was originally SD)"

And for a single frame just to take a print-screen?

Thank you.

After you select video - Compression, this menu will pop up with compression options. If your footage has a resolution of 720p or greater, the guide is telling you to select UtVideo YUV420 BT.709

If your footage has a resolution less than 720p, the guide is telling you to select UtVideo YUV420 BT.601

Or you can just select the lagarith option (which is what I do) since it works for HD and SD footage. When you installed the AMVpack (also on the guide's website), you were given the option to install a variety of compression codecs. If you selected the check box for lagarith, then you'll have this option.

Hi again,
I'm sorry but how do I capture a screenshot in vdub?
Searched in google but nothing has worked so far.

I wouldnt say its good for that but

1 pick a frame using frame selectors (black half arrows)

2 file->export->image sequence , pick format that you like and place.

3 click ok , done
Still better than that MMO.

I've downloaded the AMV pack (I had an old version) and now I've noticed that in some episodes my frame numbers that I wrote in Excel don't match the frame numbers of the same scenes in vdub, like 190 frames have been added.

Why did this happen?
Is there anything that I can do to fix it or something?
