These are my thoughts on the various endings of evangelion:
First of all, the original ending was better. It had a lot of very deep vanilla flavored psychology/phylosiphy (SP) but it really showed the characters working through there mental difficulties in a way that really was quit unique and interesting in my opinion. They werent just siting and crying and holding their heads like in other series (and the earlier parts of this series even) which was really cool and all. However, we didnt get to see any giant EVA battles
The movie had some really flashy battle scenes, they make for especially good AMV material... really. But aside from that, the whole phylosophical (this is just not the right spelling!) element is done WAY over the top in a way that required to much previous information in my opinion. I mean, it would be one thing if the plot was based on religios stories... from the BIBLE, but they are from books that were rejected from the bible. You would have had to have read a relatively obscure set of books to really understand what is going on which is beyond goofy. That said, I found it all very intriguing. The last thing that bugs me about EOE was the fact that there was all this drama surounding various peoples deaths, and all this effort put forth to do so many things that ended up being ENTIRELY irelivent because they just had the oportunity to die a couple of days before everyone else! I felt an emotional let down at the ending (which was somehow enhanced by the fact that that annoying bastard Shinji was still alive
)
But when I think about the whole thing to much, I just stop and realize, "What the hell, this entire SERIES totally sucked, why are people still talking about it"... I guess there really is just no accounting for taste

45 minutes of seemingly deep but actually meaningless bullshit is not as good as 45 minutes of senseless violence followed by 45 different minutes of seemingly deep but actually meaningless bullshit. And the 45 minutes of seemingly deep but actually meaningless bullshit in the movie looked prettier than the 45 minutes of seemingly deep but actually meaningless bullshit in episodes 25 and 26. I love copy and paste.

Why Change it, the ending is exactly like it should have been, and I thought it was perfect

"I've spent the last ten years of my life defending my country, I've sacrificed for it, fought for it, and bled for it, now it's time I got something back, so please just respect me and my fellow Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines as we continue to do this job."

Ashton, the Kabbalah is not made out of rejected bible stories, its a completely separate book out of the 3 that were originally created. The bible was the literal events, the kabbalah was the mystical side of the events, and the other one i totally forget. Anyhow, when all the crap was collected for the bible back in whatever year, they had most of it. But lots of the kabbalah had been lost/misplaced/etc and couldnt be pulled into one collective Kabbalah deluxe collectors edition 2. You're right about it being harder to find and read but it definitely isnt any less legendary and religious than the bible just because its less commonly known.

Even though I liked the ending a lot id have to agree with Mr Oni I feel that if I was joined with everybody id feel that id lose my freedom and sense of uniqueness so id have to go with death but I was glad with all things joining into one , death would have been too cliche because the way evangelion was going you basicilly thought that someone was gonna die to end the series but people not dieing and not living I thought was a good twist to it.
I've got no soul to sell....
