Boogiepop Phantom..

Post by nailz » Sun Dec 15, 2002 5:03 pm

Ok, so I saw the first DVD at media play a week ago and decided "what the hell, I havent picked anything new up in a while" and bought it for myself. I picked up the second dvd today. It's kind of like.. Lain meets Wicked City.

There seems to be very little plot within the first 3 episodes, and the animation itself is incredibly annoying because it's like.. a circle that fades into blackness as you get to the square on the TV, .. hmm. screen shot is in order..

So yah, it's dull, colorless and visually annoying, but god how I love this anime. anyone else check it out or have thoughts to share?

One of my personal favorites. While it may seem to have little coherent plot at the beginning, it all comes together wonderfully in the end. You get the feeling that they left some stuff out though, but it doesn't hurt the anime at all. (In fact, it just made me want to find the source material, which may be an actual novel(s), not a manga.)

Personally I liked the style in which Boogiepop Phantom was animated. The characters were drawn very realistically, much like the ones from Lain, and they fit the atmosphere well. As for the "circle that fades into blackness as you get to the square on the TV," I felt it just added to the dark and creepy mood of the show.

Overall, this is one of the best shows, animated or otherwise that I have seen in a long time.

  GOD I hate the cross walk song in BoogiePop...

...It burned itself into my head and now anytime I hear it in other anime I cringe due to the emotional scars that BoogiePop forced upon me...

funny you'd mention the characters being drawn similarly to lain. I thought the one girl in the 3rd episode looked a LOT like Arisu.

While visually annoying, the animation DOES add to the anime, and adds the creepy factor nicely, i'll give you that.

Apparently, Arisu's real intended name in Lain is Alice. It's that whole "r pronounced as l, drop the u on the end" thing.
I'm out...

I took some of those anime quiz things and it told me I belong in this anime, so I felt intrigued to research it. not much comes up though, I just keep getting no real story to it, but everything is important in the end down to the last detail, and it all comes together. It's frustrating to try and learn anything about this anime, but it only makes me want to see it more.

What "anime quiz things" might those be? I might like to try one just for kicks.

I'm pretty sure that Boogiepop and Lain had the same art director. Makes sense to me.

The whole visual thing with the darkness around the edges made this series one of my favorites. With the darkness and stuff...just wait. It's only a 12 episode show, you'll get to the end soon...I'll I can say is just wait, theres reasons behind everything. :D

Boogiepop Phantom is by far the best series I've watched this year, and definately one of my all time facorites. I love how the story has so many different layers to it, and how the timeframe switches around all the time.

The ending was excellent too! :D
