Re: Why are QCs anonymous?
It couldn't work because people who don't leave their (real) screen name don't want the conversation, they just want their opinion to be stated and leave it at that. They don't care if you have a response to it.
meh.

you can't speak for all of them. i've only left my name once because now i just find it an unnecessary hassle. If we could reply we could get more feedback, or make sense of the feedback that we DO get.JaddziaDax wrote:It couldn't work because people who don't leave their (real) screen name don't want the conversation, they just want their opinion to be stated and leave it at that. people that dont want the conversation can just not reply. their names still aren't visible, and they don't have to back up their assertions!

Re: Why are QCs anonymous?
You're right, I shouldn't make blanket statements like that (even in sarcasm)... because I don't sign my own QCs as I'm just too lazy to press the extra keys
It just seems that is one of the reasons for keeping them anon though, because people don't want the "backlash" or the "drama" associated with leaving a negative review. Allowing people to respond just opens that drama up. (ohnos!
)
As for the whole "ruining friendships" reason - if a negative review on a video is enough to ruin your friendship then you weren't really good friends to begin with - friends should at least be able to be honest with each other imho. They can also agree to disagree.
Personally I wouldn't mind if they were no longer anonymous. I'm brave enough to own what I've said about people's videos.

Re: Why are QCs anonymous?
Taking away the anonymous aspect just makes them redundant. Unless we did away with the OP system, of course.

Re: Why are QCs anonymous?
Here I thought that they were supposed to cut down on the "zomg i love it/hate it!" one-liner (spam?) ops, and try to give more of the lazy people a reason to leave feedback since they are less work than writing out a full op. QCs can still do that weather or not they are anonymous.
From what I can tell the only reason to keep them anon, is to cut out on the DRAMA.

Re: Why are QCs anonymous?
So, you could get a quick comment that says "zomg I hate it!" or an op that says "zomg I hate it!" and also includes information concerning how they'd score it specific categories like in originality, synch, etc.
But then again, I've never been particularly damning of short opinions, because whether they comment on it in length, I still see how they feel about those categories. I don't consider it spam at all.

I've never been damning of ops that are short either... it's just that when QCs were brought up in the first place this was one of the reasons stated that stuck out in my mind as for having them.
Personally I wouldn't mind doing away with QCs...

Re: Why are QCs anonymous?
ex. 1
qcer : i don't like the flashes
editor : okay, thanks for the crit/whatever douchebag
qcer moves on and shouldn't care, unless he escalates it into an argument, if he didn't want drama then he wouldn't, and so any drama is on them, no names are tarnished (except the editors) so no drama outside the little qcs
ex. 2
qcer : I really love this!
editor : Thank you!/(nothing)
would you be against expressions of gratitude?
ex. 3
qcer : -slightly deeper comment-
queue civilized conversation (or if the editor is otakugray, queue butthurt rant, which is another plus so we won't have to hear it)
ex. 4
qcer : i didn't like the flashes
editor : you mean the shutter effect?
qcer : oh yeah, my bad.
misunderstanding resolved!
--
If someone doesn't want drama then don't reply. or maybe a checkbox next to the qc "no reply" ? or limit the amount of replies to 1 for the editor and one for the qcer... idk.
probably semi-difficult to code though so maybe not.

Re: Why are QCs anonymous?
A better example would have been a comment saying they couldn't see the video, so the editor could explain how to view it, or a QC asking a question. If the editor can't respond, then being asked a question can feel annoying and pointless.gotuhjanks wrote:ex. 4
