Checkbox labels in new video form misaligned

Post by Cyrix » Sun Aug 01, 2010 5:16 pm

Has anyone else noticed in the "animes" page of the new video form, the labels for the checkboxes are completely misaligned? The "S" for spoilers is perfectly lined up with the checkbox that marks the video as NOT having spoilers; this has caused me several times to check the wrong checkbox.

Browser, browser version, operating system, etc? I'd check to make sure it isn't on your side. It may not be, and probably isn't, the site code.

IE 8, Windows 7. Apparently it doesn't happen in Firefox.

If it doesn't work consistently in all browsers, there's something wrong with the site code.

On the bright side, at least it defaults to spoilers instead of not.

More likely, some companies feel they're too big and important to follow web standards and you shouldn't use their products.

I've gotten the impression IE8 rectifies most CSS issues, and Firefox is always coming up with new ways to have performance issues that IE doesn't have. I didn't really like the interface in Chrome or Opera but it's been a few years since I've tried Opera.

It defaults to "opposite of what you wanted" if you check anything.

Have you tried using the compatibility mode setting in IE8? TBH while IE8 fixed many of the WC3 standards issues it didn't fix all of them. The problem is that people had to design sites like this one to work in IE7 which requires a lot of hacks to get it to work the way it is intended. Still, IE8 has problems especially when faced with code meant for IE7 unless Compatibility Mode is checked. Try that and see if it fixes the issue.

In my testing on Win7 with IE8 I noticed that the S and I don't line up with ANY check box with or without compatibility mode on. However with compatibility set to on I did notice that the S ran slightly between the two check boxes. However I also noticed that while it may seem that the S heading is over top of the 'non-spoiler' checkbox the two headings are not out of order. So if you actually pay attention to the order of the headings and follow that then you would not check the wrong box. By now I've just come accustomed to the fact that the first box is Spoiler and the second box is non-spoiler. Also, I noticed that the colors (when they do show up, which is rare i admit) also line up properly for the check boxes.

All my videos are past the point where you can edit info; I can't test it more now without starting to enter a new video, and as soon as you get past the first page of entering new video info it permanently saves it on the server and you have to ask special permission to have it removed.

On my computer it did line up perfectly with the wrong checkbox. I didn't notice the labels are in the correct order but misaligned until after I had finished with the video information; now it's too late to fix it.

This is a big problem with a small form; I hope it's not a big nuisance to fix it.
