Found some 5 year old AMVs in my friend's hdd...

Post by hxa155 » Thu May 27, 2010 9:27 pm

Hey guys, what's up.

I borrowed my friend's external hard drive and I found some videos that were long lost. They were on my (very) old computer but it's kinda dead right now and I forgot that he copied them from me. The videos were AMVs and even though I stopped watching anime and editing videos long time ago, watching them was pretty nostalgic. I recalled that I never "published" my videos online because of our shitty internet but now that's no longer the case. I want to upload them on youtube, but I don't know if I should, I mean, with all those copyright laws and stuff. Silly question I know but I just want to avoid any legal problems. Also, the videos were made 5 years ago (when I was 15) and they're really fast paced so will the quality of the video suffer further if I upload 'em on youtube?

Sorry if there's any grammar mistakes and stuff. English is my second language.

The main thing I recommend is uploading them here first, you don't have to worry about the copyright bullshit here. It's not a necessity but if you do want to upload them on YT you can but if any of your amvs get caught with a copyright notice they won't push any legal action on you, what they'll do is block it from being viewed by people either in one country or many. And in the event that they block it in a country you don't want it to be blocked in all you need to do is to just take down that amv and it won't affect your account in any way. They mostly block extremely popular mainstream music so anything from bands like Linkin Park you will mos def get hit with a copyright notice.

There is a way to still keep your copyrighted amv on YT permanently and unblocked entirely using a copyright claim and a certain clause, but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. After a month or less after you put the claim in they'll decide to either let you keep the amv uploaded and viewed by others, or they'll permanently mute or forcefully take it down. And in the event that they mute or remove your amv they may give you a strike, 3 and you'll have your account suspended but sometimes they'll suspend people's accounts even if they get one strike. Fucked up I know.

And If you're worried about the qualities of them on YT just put the amvs on private once they're uploaded and check them out for yourself to see if they do look knocked, and if not put them on public.
"Someday humankind will come to understand one another! I sincerely believe that!" Fei Fong Wong
"We live to make the impossible possible! That is our Focus!" Claire 'Lightning' Farron
"Believe in yourself, and create your own destiny. Don't fear failure." Toonami

The Lord Jesus Christ is the only way.

Thanks a lot, man. I just uploaded 3 of the videos here and will try YT later, even though most of the stuff in there is Linkin Park.
