AnimeVegas 2010 contest: FINALISTS POSTED!!

Post by Stryyder » Thu Apr 08, 2010 8:08 pm

Submission Deadline has passed! Reviews/judging will take place within the next 2 weeks. Please check back in August for the finalist announcement!

Hey guys. We're bringing the AMV contest back to Anime Vegas this year!

Anime Vegas 2010 runs 9/4-9/6 at the Alexis Park Resort in Las Vegas, NV. For information on the convention click here.

The rules for this year's contest have been posted below or you can find them in PDF format here.

Revised AMV Contest Rules for Anime Vegas 2010
Spoiler :
The 2010 AMV Contest is open to all AMV creators. Video Submission Deadline is July 16, 2010 (07/16/10).

Contestants may compete for top prize in four categories:

Action/Adventure – Videos about action, battles, and quests, the best in upbeats and beatdowns.
Drama/Sentimental – Got a video that will make someone cry, fall in love, get angsty, or just stand in reverent awe? This is the category for you.
Comedy – The jewel of most AMV contests, how many sides can you split? Show us the funny!
Trailer/Parody – Commercial parody, movie trailer parody, or any other parody you can think of. Creativity shines here.

Contestants may enter more than one AMV, but contestants may submit only one entry per category.

Category Prizes:
Prizes will be awarded for the following awards:

* Best In Category (Audience) – The top video from each category, based on audience vote.
* Judge’s Favorite – The video that ranks the highest score among the judges.
* Best in Show – Top video overall, based on audience vote.
* Special Judge’s Favorite – The special judge’s favorite is only open to those creators in attendence at the convention. Video’s will be screened for a special judge from the AMV community, who will choose the winner of this prize. The winner will receive a special goody made by the special judge.

Winners will receive an award statue as well as some anime goodies that are TBD.

Note: Winners not in attendence will be eligible to receive their certificate by mail, however any other prizes must be accepted in person at Anime Vegas.

Video Length:

Videos must be a minimum of 1 minutes playback time and up to a maximum of 5 minutes playback time. Any videos not meeting the playback time requirement will not be accepted.

Video Resolutions:
Videos should be in standard 4:3 aspect ratio for fullscreen playback and 16:9 aspect ratio (or 4:3 with inlayed letterboxing) for widescreen playback. As all videos should be in final compressed format (see Format below) no changes will be made to alter resolutions so make sure they run well in your playback software before submitting (WMP, VLC Player, KM Player, etc.)

Format:
Videos should be submitted in standard playback forms ready to be played in standard media players. Those formats can include:
AVI
Xvid
MP4
WMV

Basically any file that can be played in Windows Media Player, VLC Player or KM Player. All entries should be compressed to standard playback sizes, NOT uncompressed versions. Files will be simply transferred and played, thus large filesizes may affect playback. If you have any questions about acceptable formats please contact: amv@animevegas.com.

Judging:

All entrants will be prescreened and judged prior to the convention. The top 5 videos for each category will be selected as finalists to be screened at the convention. Audience members will be given a voting ballot for the contest and choose their favorite video for each category. At the end of the show, audience members will be asked to circle one video out of the entire show to be voted as Best in Show. The votes will then be counted, while a post-show of honorable mentions is played, and then the winners announced.

Disqualifications:
Please remember that Anime Vegas is a FAMILY –FRIENDLY event and video content should be appropriate for all ages, primarily anime content, and a high-quality product.

Your video will be disqualified from competition if:
1) your video is found to be poorly encoded as to have any large artifacts or many small artifacts, poor color, etc.
2) it is found to be in poor taste, contains excessive violence, sexual content, and/or strong language.
3) it contains subtitles (except within context) . If your source has subtitles that cannot be deleted, please crop them out.
4) it contains live action instead of primarily anime, or has excessive non-anime related video footage (video game FMVs are permitted). Videos should consist of no less than 80% anime footage.
5) it does not meet the minimum or maximum required playback length of time.
6) it contains bumpers/title screens. All videos will be given uniform identifying slides.
7) it, for some reason, cannot be played in the playback program used.

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to submit your AMV way before the due date, ESPECIALLY if your AMV content or format is questionable. Creators whose videos that meet one of the disqualification criteria will be notified and updated videos can be resubmitted for consideration. It is recommended to keep your saved edit files. Good to see the AMV contest making an optimistic return after the debacle that was the 2008 contest.... I'm planning on flying out to Vegas for Labor Day weekend, and I hope this time around the contest (and the convention itself) will be a success. :)

Alright!

Good to see this contest return. I'll throw together something especially for this one.

(very excited)
This is how I see things:
A bad AMV makes it look easy
A good AMV makes it look fun
A great AMV makes it look hard
However, the best AMVs make it look impossible
