How about Rayearth?
You can go there as a normal human, and with time become stronger and stronger. Also, the world around you is affected by your emotions and the streanth of your will. The place has potential.

In most of the anime's that I'm into, ordinary civilians tend to have this annoying habbit of dying very easily. So that crosses most of the ones that are more interesting to me off the list. Maybe I'd go for Love Hina, or Cowboy Bebop.

Maybe Cowboy Bebop or Kenshin, because if I couldn't have special powers there is where I'd have my best chance to have fun and not be killed that easily.
