Thanks again to all that submitted. Once again I would like to appologize on the behalf of Katsucon for the sound issues in the first and start of the second contest. This was a new area we were in and my first experiencing a room that had nothing but concret. We will be ready for next year now that I have more time to prepare for it. Without you the editors this contest wouldn't have been possible. We had a decent showing Friday and a packed room Saturday.

I'll post pictures of the trophies and the coordinator's choice award tonight.

Is being on staff a disqualifer even if its a dept that has nothing to do with the AMV screening?

Rule #16 This is a given anybody on the AMV Staff can not submit to this contest but still can have their videos shown as non-competing entries. All entries of the AMV Contest will be done in a blind screening. (yes everyone will be able to see the video.)
This means if you are on AMV Staff you can't compete in the contest. So as long as you are not apart of the amv staff, it is fine for you to compete. All amv's will be judged at blind screeening with the staff members I have selected along with some Katsu has provided me.

Okay, I REALLY hope that when you say "encoded", you don't also mean "edited" as well. Because it is perfectly possible to export a DV AVI or large, high-quality WMV (requires custom profile) from Windows Movie Maker and then convert it to a more tractable format, like any of the formats you listed as acceptable. Cyanna has done this a few times before (before she switched editing programs) and I'm sure plenty of other WMM users have done so as well.

So please clarify this rule. As it reads now, I'd expect you to have a lot of very unhappy WMM users on your hands.

Edit: Thank you!

Interesting question.

Considering action is often associated with fighting, The only instances I can think of where NO violence is involved would be either sports or a high-damage chase scene (whether it be between two regular motor vehicles or giant robots). I, personally, don't consider fighting between mecha to be violence since they are just machines. ;)

I'll be super impressed if you can bring a violence-free action video...

Violence is allowed just not EXCESSIVE VIOLENCE in the case of Elfen Lied where heads are being severed and exploding. That's a little graphic for the audience. Use your best judgement and if the judges and con chair feels it is too excesive we will contact you.

If you have any other questions please email or post here and I'll get back as soon as I see the message.

Sports or other competitive game-based shows with lots and lots of cuts.
