Unless the media companies can get all the governments in the world to police their internet traffic and start shutting down all the file sharing sites out there, the task is impossible. Just making things illegal doesn't stop people from doing it. People still jaywalk, drive over the speed limit, drink and drive, and use cellphones while operating a vehicle.

I guess the terminology change is a nod to the fact that they can't stop real pirates (all the bootleggers in China, among others) so now they are going after the little guy. Internet piracy file sharing hurts the bootleggers too!

I'd think the biggest thing they'd be worried about is jury nullification when these things go to court, but judging by the current record, the jury pool can still be thinned to find enough people willing to value a couple of CDs worth of music as more than a human life. Do they honestly fear losing their grip on Washington? I'd think it wouldn't be possible...

Worked for me. Quite a few years back I was called for jury duty. I mentioned jury nullification. Was sent home. Haven't been called for jury duty since.

The last time i was called for jury duty - i told them that i no longer live in that state (which was the truth).

but as for the subject at hand - i think the changing of terms is because they finally probably realized that vilifying their audience isn't going to help them - especially in times of recession.
