sync problems with preview version of amv
hey guys this is my first time uploading a video to the site and for some reason the original file is fine and when you download the video from the local link everything is in sync. but if you click the preview link the video is a few seconds out of sync the song actually goes on for a few seconds at the end of the video after it ends. but in my cut the video and audio fade out at the same time at the end of the cut. does anyone have any idea why this may have happened. I don't know if it will help figure out the problem but i exported the AMV as a h.264 from final cut pro

Re: sync problems with preview version of amv
I suppose the encoder had some issues with the framerate, perhaps due to the container (my guess is that it treated it as a 30fps video instead of 29.97). I'm not sure if requesting a re-encode would help any, at least not without changing the file on local. Also, checking it for re-encode would put it at a low priority, meaning it'd take a while before it'd get re-encoded.

I suppose you're free, here. I'd personally just warn that the preview is off-sync in the video description.eternityprod wrote:so should i just leave it as is? since the local link is fine
The other solution would be re-encoding the video to something else, requesting a file change on local, then requesting the preview to be re-encoded, and then wait for the preview to be re-encoded from the new local file (which could potentially take years since the queue is very long and priority is given to new vids) - not really worth it, imho.
Just pay more attention about what you upload next time, I guess, keep in mind that the preview encoder dislikes MOVs. :\

Or if you encode your AMV with something else, you could request a reupload, and it would probably turn out fine. It's probably because you made the h264 in final cut, and Apple software is known for having really bad h264 support.

Re: sync problems with preview version of amv
There are three options...
- If a moderator marks the video for re-encoding it gets priority before all remaining encodes. Though in this case I doubt marking it for re-encode will help much.
- You can request to replace the local video with a different encode. In this case the re-encode of the video is automatic, no moderators need to do anything here except approve the local file deletion.
- The last option is to simply delete the preview version and only have the local file available.
Re-encodes can be done within an hour or two. If I recall correctly, existing previews marked for re-encode get deleted at 13 minutes after the hour and then are reset to the top of the encoding queue. The only time a user's videos get shoved to the end of the queue is if they opt out of streaming on their user profile page and then opt back in. This is done so users with normally high priority encodes don't tie up the queue by re-encoding their videos multiple times.mirkosp wrote:The other solution would be re-encoding the video to something else, requesting a file change on local, then requesting the preview to be re-encoded, and then wait for the preview to be re-encoded from the new local file (which could potentially take years since the queue is very long and priority is given to new vids) - not really worth it, imho.

Ah, I was under the impression that marking for re-encode would put pretty much at the end of the line. It was quite the opposite. Now I know.Corran wrote:There are three options...As for why it didn't encode properly, I am not sure. Mplayer is the decoding software used by the server. If it can't render it properly, the resulting encode will also have problems. We've encoded many .mov files thus far and of the ones I've watched, I have not noticed many issues. I'd chalk it up to what Zarxrax mentioned. If you can re-encode the video on your end, I'd do option 2. While I don't think option #1 will help, I've marked the video for re-encode using the existing file since it won't really hurt to do so...

It's in your profile, A check box that says you want to opt-in to previews in general. It'll delete them all (and not allow you to look at other people's previews too).eternityprod wrote:yea if the reencode doesnt work i would like to just delete the preview but i cant find that option how do you do that
