Re: Bruno
good call. it's a "only watch once" sort of movie. And ya, it's pretty much 100% shock humor. renting it once it comes out is fine.Ghet wrote:meh, seems to me like its low grade shock humor, might give it a watch, but not paying 10 dollars to see it in theaters.

Re: Bruno
It's not 100%, but yeah, the shock humor was what it was. That's what people end up talking about afterward.
...but that's not it. The entire concept of the movie depends on you realizing he's just playing a character. The joy comes from how he uses Bruno to mess with other people. To watch THIER reactions. The audience knows this, the movie knows the audience knows this, and they use it to set up some really great situations. The beginning velcro suit, the Paula Abdul thing, the hunters, the hotel staff... and the finale is just wonderful, and it's NOT shocking. By the end of the movie, you almost know what's coming. Even the most "shocking" thing (to me, should be to everyone) the focus group, was still funny to watch the unsuspecting victims react to the show.
See, while it's still shock humor to us, while we watch what unfolds in front of our eyes, we also get to see other people react to the shock humor. The looks on their faces, what they do and say, is what's funny to me. It's to see people take this man seriously, when you're in on it, because you know it's all just an act. The movie is one big inside joke.
Even more reason to at least try and watch it with other people. REALLY not going to be as good if you see this by yourself.

So it's basically a 2girls1cup reaction video where we watch the video that's causing the reaction too?meleechampion wrote:It's not 100%, but yeah, the shock humor was what it was. That's what people end up talking about afterward.

Not exactly. Although there are certainly PARTS of the movie where it seems EXACTLY like that.
It's a tad more elegant, a bit better performed, and overall more enjoyable.
