Dear The Soc,

Dig a hole and fucking kill yourself.

Sincerely, Pas

Overall a good read, I particularly enjoyed Otohiko's response.

Cool, he printed mine.

GG Mirko & Otohiko.

I don't get people like The Soc. Of course most of it is crap. Noone on the org would disagree. That's no reason to be a hater.

Oh nice, so my rant wasn't a waste of time (or just a really good procrastination device) like I thought when I wrote it >__>

And I'm amused by Mirko's pizza analogy. You Italian you. :P
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Oh no, certainly not! I for one was quite pleased to see your "rant" and the others offered a succinct and sensible take on the subject that (IMO) represented the AMV community pretty well. Given how much discussion has gone on around here over the years about the subject of AMVs - their legality, their artistic merit, etc. - it was nice that some portions of it bore fruit on a site like ANN. about noting ANN's past treatment of AMVs/AMV editors, btw. That really made me smile.
As for the overall quality of AMVs; it's definitely a mixed bag: 90% crap, 9% average/good and 1% excellent. That definitely describes [the 'Tube]; animemusicvideos.org is better but it's harder to access the videos.
This was a comment made in the ANN forum about where AMVs "live." Made me a little sad...I'd think most people would agree that one will have far more success finding above-average AMVs here than on the 'Tube. The hoops one has to jump through are pretty minor, in terms of accessing videos here, and the payoff is huge compared to spending a lot of time searching around for stuff on the 'Tube. :(

The mental disconnect of people in the community from those that are not always surprises me. We see AMVs as the top 5% of what's out there and dismiss the rest as non relevant where everyone else sees the whole 100% and fawns over about half of it. I'm normally not one to advocate a filtered view of the world, but some of those responders need to learn to dismiss the kindergarten art projects when they're discussing painting. (For the literary folks, i'd also encourage not including the server dumps of fanfiction.net in any analysis of modern literature)

I liked Purplepolecat's. It didn't sound like it came from a total otaku.

They're a terrible scourge upon the internet and should be stopped by any means. The MPAA and RIAA should hunt down every last vestige of illegally hosted media and sue them to the fullest extent of the law. In fact, I propose the creation of a 24/7 toll-free hotline for people to report suspicious media theft. I, for one, welcome our new tyrannical overlords.
