the fact that its a drama video doesn't mean it doesn't need to have sync. just means you need to incorporate the sync in a way that won't hurt the concept etc etc etc.Knowname wrote:I just hate it when you show someone a drama amv and their like... where's the sync??

I agree that there's only 2 available options: synchronization or suckingOtohiko wrote:Oversync?
Actually what you're doing is just sucking.

Re: In terms of "oversync"...
in drama videos the type of sync is typically different and less beat sensitive, more emotion based. If your treating it like an action video you don't see it where you expect it to be thus many ppl would say there is no syncGhet wrote:the fact that its a drama video doesn't mean it doesn't need to have sync. just means you need to incorporate the sync in a way that won't hurt the concept etc etc etc.Knowname wrote:I just hate it when you show someone a drama amv and their like... where's the sync??

I've seen some incredible drama AMVs with a fair amount of action sync as well as ALOT of mood sync. as example

nevertheless editors should be conscious that hitting every beat, note or sound, may end in a ridiculous work, well usually it does.

Re: In terms of "oversync"...
1) yes but 2) how you can find actual story and originality in that video in the spoiler is beyond me. Like Hasteroth said, there are a FEW really deep drama vids that pull off a good amount of beat sync... but it's not really neaded. I'd say the average drama video (average as in good) don't have much in the way of beat sync. Is it a cop out? maybe. there are examples of excellent drama w/ beat sync. But it's not needed for a drama video. If a video is made to be just how you want it to be than most likely you'll primarily want your drama video to fit a story, not hit every beat. I'd be happy with that, it would be average.
Not to criticize your taste in story but give me something more than 'goodbye so long' with pictures of kiddies flying for it to be story~~. I know I seen that one before and I like it, but I wouldn't vote for it in the drama category lol.

Re: In terms of "oversync"...
Making a drama video isn't an excuse for shitty editing. Bad sync is bad sync regardless of the type of video. Granted, you can't sync a drama video like an action video (most of the time), you still have to have enough sync to keep the video from being shitty. Yes, that includes beat sync.

ok... that video was a example of something that could be considered "oversync", but actually looks great... so keep inside your drama sarcasm, cuz I really don´t see the point.
About drama amv, even you agree with hasteroth, who is just defending the point that beat-sync (action) can be use in this kind of amv, obviously it will never be use as in an action vid...
so there are good drama video that use beat sync, but in average it isn´t needed, cuz you want to tell a story and to tell a story you shall use "long" sequel and low transitions...Knowname wrote: But it's not needed for a drama video.

Re: In terms of "oversync"...
sorry I got a little carried away with my elitest bashing (otherwise known as jealousy) there lol. Anyway yeah perfect example of a drama video with terrible beat sync lol. (ofc I only watched the preview and that may or may not mess with timing anyway but)... @aaron, ofc I'm not saying you can ignore it completely I'm just saying you can put it on the back seat. If you concentrate on beat sync and put the story on the back seat than you should just call your video action, if you concentrate on story and put the beat sync in the back seat you have made a drama video. There are other elemants involved, like emotional sync (usually set of by transitions) and can go OVERBOARD in drama videos lol... that bugs me too... but what I'm saying is when my video is trying to tell a story but all you see is the half-assed beat sync and just misunderstand the emotional transitions taking them to be failed beat sync cuz your expecting some flashy action video. That's when I explode lol.

I believe oversynch is when you never miss a beat (in the music). A moment where the physical instruments take over the lyrics and/or visuals. Or a moment when you are so overloaded with visuals that you cannot decipher what is happening. There is no point to telling a story if the story flashes by so fast that you cannot decipher it.
Unless the video is an action video.
There is no such thing as oversynching in an action video.
