Uploading a Video (I'm so very confused!)

Post by EkaCoralian » Thu Mar 26, 2009 4:00 pm

I did see the other topic for this, but I believe most of my questions were not answered there.

1. Okay, I filled in all of the information for my latest video, but when I get to the "Links" page, it says that the information has not been filled out correctly. I've checked it over several times, and the only difference compared to a normal upload would be that I had to submit a new artist and song.
Song: Save my Soul
Artist/Band: Low Level Flight

In the other topic, I saw that a-m-v.org staff had to accept the submittion, so I think my problem there is that the song needs to be accepted. The title of the AMV is "Eureka SeveN AMV - "Save My Soul" (HollandxTalho)", so if someone could accept the artist + song submittion, that would be much appreciated.

2. For my first AMV ("Casshern SINS - Who I Am Hates Who I've Been (SHORT MIX)"), I no longer have the original video file, so I requested deletion of the video. It was denied, because I could put a link in its place. So, I went to the "Links" page, typed in the URL (I'm positive its correct), and a comment and selected, "Direct Link." I clicked "continue", and it came back at me with, "Error in the URL. 200 - OK" Since I know the URL is correct, I'm wondering if it just doesn't accept YT videos (because the last time I tried to type in a YT URL in a post, it was immediately changed and no one could access the link. Lesson learned there.) So I'm just a bit confused as to what to do in this situation.

3. Finally, seeing as I still have my video file for my second AMV here ("Eureka SeveN AMV - "Save my Soul" (HollandxTalho)"), I would like to upload it to the a-m-v.org server. I downloaded an FTP client ("CuteFTP"), but I'm honestly unsure how to use it. When I ran the Client, it asked for a webhost, and I typed in a-m-v.org's url. Then it asked for a username and password, and I typed in my a-m-v.org Username and Password, and it came back saying, "The host validation failed. Check that the username and password are correct." And if I even GET logged into it, what do I do with this client!? Drag and drop my video there? I'm really confused.

I'm sorry, this is a lot of questions. But if they could be answered as soon as possible, it'd be much appreciated. I hope to enter my second AMV to a Con, so I would like to have it downloadable here by Sunday, if thats possible.

1 & 3:
In order to upload a file you need to click the link "Upload Video" in the "Editors..." category of the members menu. It will then give you the server address to use in your ftp client as well as the username and password. Follow the directions on the page and you should be able to get your video uploaded. Songs that are added to the DB shouldn't need admin approval, just the names of new anime shows.

2:
You are correct that the site does not allow linking youtube files here... we should really make that error more descriptive. >_> Anyways, the site's mission is to catalog every amv ever created. If you are unable to provide a file that is fine. However, if you want to upload the video here and the only place it exists now is on You Tube then you will need to download the video using a you tube downloading site. You can find one by searching google.

Thanks! My Casshern SINS AMV is viewable now. ^_^ Hm, maybe my computer was malfunctioning at the Links part then, I'll try again later.

One other question: Now that my Casshern SINS AMV has a link, I still want my Eureka SeveN AMV to be downloadable here. Thing is, whenever I go to "Confirm Upload", and "FTP Info", it always ends up coming up with info for my Casshern SINS AMV. And it says that the video hasn't been uploaded yet. Do I need to input the information into my FTP Client? If so, then what? I just want the Casshern SINS AMV out of the way so I can upload my Eureka SeveN AMV here.

>_> What you did is essentially try to get around the youtube link filter rather than take the advice I gave about how to download a copy of it. :?

Here is your video as downloaded from Youtube. Please don't link to this as I will remove the link once I know that you have the file.

I was able to figure out a lot of things yesterday, so my Casshern SINS AMV now has an Indirect Link, and my E7 AMV has been uploaded. =)
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

You're welcome, but you are either missing my point or not reading the last post I made. This site does not want users linking to YT videos. Your indirect link goes to a site that embeds your YT video. It is basically the same thing and as a result the link has been removed. Please see my last post.

Thanks for your help! I'll keep the anti-YT rule in mind. =)
