Bryan Adams Music Problems.
Hello all. I wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem. I made an AMV a while back featuring Kingdom Hearts (2) clips, with the song "Heaven" by Bryan Adams, with FULL CREDIT given to him for the song. I posted the video on youtube and basically forgot it. Today, I logged on youtube with the intent of downloading the video for the purposes of college applications. (I lost the video file a while back)
When I got to the video's page on my account, I discovered that it had been removed due to a copyright issue with "Adams Communications."
I looked around youtube, and could barely find any amvs with Bryan Adams songs.
Has anybody else had this problem with specifically Bryan Adams music or otherwise?

Re: Bryan Adams Music Problems.
Can't say I've personally had the problem since I don't have any videos to upload to the tube, but it's fairly common. A lot of artists (or more often than not, labels) don't want their music floating around streaming sites without their consent. Just because you gave him "full credit" doesn't mean you have the legal right to use his music. You would have to pay money for that right, and a hefty sum of money at that.
Basically, welcome to the illegal hobby of making AMVs.
And I'm basing this on American copyright laws. If you aren't in America, then I don't know your particular copyright laws.
(For the record, the illegality of making AMVs isn't enforced to such an extent that you would need to fear any monetary damages, but it is still technically illegal. Except maybe for things akin to AMV Hell, which would likely be protected under Parody. A lot of anime companies even turn a blind eye to the hobby at this point.)

Since Bryan Adam's music is owned by WMG, you can kiss that vid bye-bye thanks to WMG's pullout of their YouTube partnership.

*laughs at sarcasm* I get the sarcasm, but unfortunately a lot of people still don't know about it because you can only find out about it on the web, and it wasn't really a "big deal" among mainstream media.

Besides liking Bryan Adams music myself (wich is irrelevant to the point I'll make), I was just thinking about this issue earlier....
If you really think about it, studios and artists should look at AMVs as promotion. Because the truth is, when someone buys their music and/or DVDs, they then in turn share that production to an audience that may have otherwise never even hear of it. I.E. Say an editor chooses a song and makes a great video to it. That particular song may be a different genre than what the video viewer listens to, or not nearly as played up on the radio either. In turn the video also has a tendancy to draw interest to an Anime series that the viewer hasn't heard of before (which happens quite alot here on the org).
Really the Studios should look at it no different then official music videos like they play on MTV (or used to), VH-1, and CMT and all those channels, including Utube itself. It does work nicely as promotion the same way radio and their official videos does. AMVs is simply an additional form of media for the 21st century. And I personally would think it would be cool if there would be a Satillite channel dedicated to playing AMVs (and live action edited videos too) which could open up new opportunities for this artistic media outlet.
