I'm not sure what's more sad, the fact that you actually clicked on the link, or the fact that I couldn't see that it was a bot :|

Björk

Image

Genre: Alternative, Experimental, Electronica, Trip-Hop, Jazz, Dance, Avant-Pop etc.
Years active: 1977–present
Origin: Reykjavík, Iceland

Albums:

Björk (1977)
Debut (1993)
Post (1995)
Homogenic (1997) (favourite!)
Vespertine (2001)
Medúlla (2004)
Volta (2007)

+ Compilations, singles, EPs, etc.

I've recently been in love with her music, especially her extremely expressive voice and vocals. I don't know how to describe her music. I'm quite sure there are some counterparts out there but nothing that I would listen to, making Björk very unique for me. She's a mix of various styles, depending a lot on the era. She started from dance-floor friendly electronica, further evolving to trip-hop and different sorts of experimental electronic music. The textures leave a lot of room for her singing though, which is totally mind-blowing. It's also nice to have artists out there who actually have a positive view on life and people :D

Pzychobitch

Image

Genre: Electro-Industrial, EBM, Futurepop

Years Active: 1999 - present
Origin: Germany

Current Members:
Sina Hübner
Stefan Böhm

Main Albums:
Eden (2001)
The Day After (2004)
Electrolicious (2006) (favourite!)

I avoided this band due to its name, wihch suggested something that it really wasn't. Another proof you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Pzychobitch are shamelessly pop-ish electro-industrial with a tongue-on-the-cheek attitude on creating music. The earlier releases are more tuned down, darker, noisier.. But their newest "Electrolicious", for which they're the most known, is another kind. Pzychobitch exists for those who don't really give a damn if their industrial goes pop every once in a while 8-)

S.I.N.A

Image

Genre: Electro-Industrial, Powernoise, Rhythmic Noise, EBM, Futurepop

Years Active: 2000 - present
Origin: Germany

Current Members:
Sina Hübner
Stefan Böhm

Main Albums:
Snapshot (2001)
Nie und Immer (2006) (favourite!)

This is another project of Pzychobitch members Sina and Stefan. S.I.N.A is the first powernoise act I ever listened to (well, aside from a few powernoise influenced songs here and there) and is still my favourite one of them. They're music is a rather rare collision of female vocals and rhythmic electronic noise. Their newest album also mixes pop and EBM with their earlier straight-forward powernoise style. Highly recommended if you like industrial, noise and pop!

Nullvektor

Image

Genre: Electro-Industrial, Powernoise, Rhythmic Noise

Years Active: 2001 - present
Origin: Germany

Current Members:
Stefan Böhm

Main Albums:
Strom Aufwärts (2006)
Electrophrenique (2007) (favourite!)

This is the solo project of Stefan Böhm from S.I.N.A and Pzychobitch. His sound is similar to those but with this project he's free to explore and experiment, creating mostly instrumental dancefloor-friendly electro and powernoise. What differs him from the rest of the powernoise noise is, imo, his light and playful take on it, rather than the heavy and hostile mainstream of the genre (with projects like Converter and Xotox) If you're new to the genre this might be a good place to start due to the rather easy accessibility ;)

Stabbing Westward

Image

Genre: Industrial/Alternative

Years Active: 1985 - 2002
Origin: Chicago, IL

Members:
Christopher Hall
Walter Flakus
Jim Sellers
Andy Kubiszewski
Stuart Zechman (Left after Ungod)
David Suycott (Left after Ungod)
Marcus Eliopulous (Live for Wither, Blister Burn & Peel, live & studio for Darkest Days)
Derrek Hawkins (Stabbing Westward)

Albums:
Ungod - 1993
Wither, Blister, Burn & Peel - 1996
Darkest Days - 1998 (Favorite album, since this introduced me to their work)
Stabbing Westward - 2001

Pretty much my favorite band of all time (along with NIN, but that was already mentioned). Maybe it was the angsty HS kid I was back when I first heard any of their music that got me started, but I still enjoy listening to them today. Chances are you've heard their stuff and not even realized it (and I'm not talking about Save Yourself, either).

Poets of the Fall

Image

Genre: Alternative/Soft Rock

Years Active: 2003 - Present
Origin: Helsinki, Finland

Members:
Marko Saaresto
Olli Tukiainen
Markus Kaarlonen

Albums:
Signs of Life - 2005
Carnival of Rust - 2006
Revolution Roulette - 2008

Anyone who's played Max Payne 2 will recognize this group immediately. Late Goodbye was a great song and fit the game perfectly, but these guys still know how to put out upbeat stuff as well. Also, Lift was used during the credits for the 3DMark2005 demo credits.

Musica Silentis Doloris

Image

Genre: Hard Rock

Years Active: 1997 - Present
Origin: Louisville, KY

Members:
John Wells
Marcus Wells
Gote
Robie Dixon
Samual

Albums:
October Bleeding
The Rebirth
Stormcrow

A local band (for me, anyways) that started out doing the Halloween/Spookycore routine, but well executed and with much more emphasis on the music than the horror-show aspects (which were pretty spectacular on their own). MSD, as they are known, has since ditched the blood & scars and their sound has become a lot more focused on quality while their style has taken some nice detours, tho never straying into anything remotely "light". Their newer stuff is a lot deeper and shows off not only John's vocal abilities, but also the the band's maturation and musicianship. Tracks like Legacy and Where The Sea Meets The Sky are dark and brooding, but amazing to listen to. Opposite of those on the spectrum are picks such as Face The Grey and Forever Deep, which maintain the same atmosphere with a much harder edge to them.

The Protomen

Image

Genre: Electronic/Rock

Years Active: 2003 - Present
Origin: Nashville, TN

Members:
Commander
Murphy
Heath Who Hath No Name
Panther
Scartoe
The Replicant
K.I.L.R.O.Y.
The Gambler
The Keymaster

Albums:
The Protomen (a.k.a. Act I) - 2005
Act II - TBA 2009

Another band local to me (gotta love living between two cities known for awesome local bands), The Protomen have been touring all over the country gaining quite a following wherever they go. If you want to know what they're all about in a nutshell, Act I is basically the story of Protoman and Megaman turned into an electronic rock opera. If you wander deeper into the music (and the liner notes have complete lyrics and extras that make it read like a stage/film script), it's vaguely political as well. The sparse story surrounding the games has been twisted into a dark tale of a decaying society too apathetic to save themselves from their own fate. With this comes the lone hero who sets out to save them all, only to fail due to the apathy of the populace and be thought dead. His brother discovers differently, however, when he sets out to finish what the original had started. Personal favorites are The Will of One, Unrest In The House of Light, and The Stand (Man or Machine), along with Breaking Out from the upcoming Act II.
