I'm new to AVIsynth and am currently following the step by step instructions to the t...but for some reason the DirectShowSource command won't work.
Evey time I try, the result is always...
"Script error: there is no function named DirectShowSource"
please help

Which version of AVISynth did you install? You can check it by writing a script with just the line Version() and running it.
DirectShowSource is a core filter in version 2.5.x, so there's no reason it should be failing -- if it knows enough to give the "there is no such filter" error, then obviously AVISynth itself is installed properly.

I'm using AVISynth 2.57
And yeah...it's strange that this is happening since the AVISource command works ok (albeit freezing my media player once in a while)

Wouldn't you download the DirectShowSource again? Or upgrade your avisynth to 2.5.8. Or even downgrade to Avisynth to 2.5x. Thats the one I use and I haven't encountered any problems with directshowsource.
