Question regarding Avatar and off-site downloading

Post by Chaobunny12 » Mon Oct 27, 2008 8:19 pm

First, I'd like to make the humble yet futile request that I don't get bashed to pieces with this question. It's just a question. A simple yes or no will suffice.

I have read the FAQ. I'm aware that Avatar is considered a non-anime by this site's definition of anime. I'm not going to try to argue that point.

Here is my question: Can I enter my Avatar AMVs into the catalogue and provide indirect download links via, let's say, megaupload, in order to ask for critique from people on this board? It's difficult to get decent critique on YT or LV, and I don't know anyone here personally who would be able to critique me. I'm just afraid that linking to an Avatar AMV entered in the catalogue in the forums in order to ask for critique might be considered blasphemous or something. Just wondering. :D

Wow, I'm surprised to find something like that coming from an Avatar fan.
You've really set the bar high for the next Avvy-fan.

No, you cannot upload or catalog ATLAB music videos on this site. That's strictly against the rules.

However, if you're honestly putting effort into quality editing, I don't think anyone would bite your head off for posting a link to megaupload. The vets around here tend to shy away from streaming sites, so MU is the best choice.

Another good way to get critique is to go to the IRC room and talk to people. There are plenty of people there that would be happy to help you out.
Everything came from nothing, therefore everything is nothing.

There's nothing to worry about.

Technically, yes, it's against the rules, and eventually the catalog would remove the entry. If you donate, however, there is an off-topic forum that you could post the link in.

I've never understood why Avatar isn't considered anime. Granted I know it's not Japanese produced (and thus answered my first question), but it's based off of japanese animation, and has japanese artists if I'm not mistaken.

But I guess I see why it's necessary to keep Avatar out. Cuz if it was in, then other shows like Winx, W.I.T.C.H, Code Lyoko would get in. Oh wait. I liked those too. *cries*

Bah. I understand. I just wish that people could at least catelouge them, and indirect/direct link. Because I remember a really good Avatar video that was posted a few months back, and it got removed like within an hour. I was really sad too, because it was hawt. >_>

*sigh* I guess I'm off to youtube mining for gold in a septic tank.

you can always add them in the "about me" section where you fill in the info about yourself if you are really worried about getting your Avatar videos seen, also you can link to them in your signature :3

PS. I post "video profiles" for my non-anime videos on my livejournal, you could always do something similar if you want feedback :3

Do you remember the name or maker of the video? There's a 90% chance that I've watched it and know where to find it. 8-)

Thanks for answering the question, though. I wasn't expecting people to be this nice, frankly, from past experiences. It's a shame, though, because my AMV, which won best Drama at Connecticon's AMV contest this year, isn't considered anime by this site's definition.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that one. I searched through all the well-known Avatar AMV makers I know of and I can't find a video to that song. It must be by an AMV maker that's not too well known.

Ethnicity and nationality of artists isn't brought into the equation because a good deal of animation from both Japan and the U.S. (The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc.) happens in Korea because the standard of pay there makes outsourcing a very worth wild investment.
